To commemorate the end of another semester of subpar quality education shrouded under superficial prestige, I introduce you to all.. Lorcan. Lorcan is a dear friend of mine who happens to be a rocket scientist. He is also.. Korean. He's the type of man who you'd ask if you can't access google, as he has some form of knowledge about almost anything you're curious about. He's also the man you want to call when you're in trouble, as he's one of the most loyal and passionate friends I know.

On this episode of the podcast, I'm again joined by the amazing Yasmine. For some context, Yasmine is from Egypt and I'm from Korea. Egypt has signed a peace treaty with Israel in 1979 and have been economic allies ever since. As someone who've studied the region's conflicts as the best I could, with as much objectivity I could have, my opinions about the conclusion of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the aftermath are from a process of weighing atrocities done on both sides. We talk about our opinions of the inhumane treatment the people of Palestine are receiving under the Israeli state, and also discuss the obviously most important question: who was the OG creator of the oh so scrumptious and mouth watering falafel?

On today's episode of my podcast, I am joined by Yasmine. 

Yasmine's had a very interesting background here in Tokyo. Although she's from Egypt, she spent half of her childhood and entire adult life here in Tokyo, attending both Japanese and International schools. She's a local with a unique perspective, as she experienced living in a homogenous country as a foreigner both as a child and an adult. Yet, like most people in this world, one thing can't come close to define who Yasmine is. She's an artist, a friend, a model, a thinker, and a passionate advocate for her work and what it stands for. But, the two traits that I think defines her the best are humble and self-aware, as many of you will hear from this podcast. She realises the hypocrisies of the system she's apart of, but, most importantly, tries to better her surroundings with her actions and commentaries.

With this in mind, Yasmine and I explore the sustainable fashion industry, the modelling world, and the cultural and societal differences between her home country, Egypt, and her second home, Japan.

On this personal episode of my podcast, I am once again joined by the great Julie for the second part of our podcast. 

We begin the conversation by discussing her very lovely long distance relationship with a hot hunk of a man aka her boyfriend, and continue on to discuss the importance of the right type of education in our youth. The topics range from the use of mind altering substances to the topic of sex and consent. Julie and I continue on to discuss how consent is incredibly essential to basic human interaction, but also how it can be construed to cause harm on others. 

As some of the anecdotes here are very personal ones from my life, I do stick by what I said and what happened. I want to say that my experiences are definitely NOT monolith, and that based on statistics and stories alone, stories told by women should be taken seriously and with face value. 

On today's episode of my podcast, we have an inspiration. 

My very good friend Julie is a success story here in Japan. Not only did she master a very difficult language during her studies here, but she also wouldn't compromise to the status quo of limited job opportunities in Japan for foreigners. With her amazingly positive, loving, and mindful personality, she was able to fight and work for the jobs that made her happy, landing her the position of creative producer in one of the most interesting and colorful creative agencies here in Tokyo. On this episode, we delve into what her path was like to get to where she is now, and all you listeners will get to hear why everyone loves her the moment they meet her. 

Piggybacking off of the topic of the creative industry, we also comment on how some influencers, models, and sociopaths try to mimic and weaponise common symptoms of mental illness to garner sympathy, attention, and favours.

On the second part of my podcast with Riko, we delve in to the ethics behind the freelance art world in Tokyo. To have a proper discourse, we bring up an event that's picking up a lot of traction right now in Tokyo, and ask ourselves if the whole procedure of an artistic 'collective' in events is either a good or predatory practice/industry. 

A topic like this would've been too one sided if I was having this discourse with someone who didn't know much about the world of event planning and art collectives, as I and most people do not have first hand or even second hand experience on the procedural and creational aspect of running such events/collectives. That's why this episode was so engaging as I got to put in my opinions to someone who is very knowledgeable in this world.

On today's episode of my podcast, I'm joined by the incredibly creative and intelligent Riko! She's a Japanese Kiwi artist who creates beautiful paintings about the world around her. But wait, there's more. Not only is she a creative powerhouse, but also happens to be a child prodigy, which is extensively discussed on this episode. She's also a fan of man-buns.

Underneath all her great achievements and skillsets, Riko is one of the most perceptive and empathetic people I have met. She has a way of attracting people into the conversation and making the participants feel like they're in a safe space, even if the topic of the conversation is divisive. She's soft spoken, not because she's shy, but because her message and tone resonate themselves.

On this episode, we talk about how mental health is treated here in Tokyo and how predatory the field can be when it comes to western psychiatrists practicing in Asian countries. We then move on the something Tanner is very passionate about, which is the modern use of psychedelics to help mental health and treat mental illnesses.

To the few listeners I have, I apologise for the little hiatus I took from posting up episodes. I took some days off to fully celebrate the holidays with some good friends, food, and booze. Now back to it!

On this part of our interview, we mainly focus on Tanner's specialty on his home state of Idaho and special connection to mormonism.
