  • Ep.51 Hot & Unbothered

A lot of the conversations Tonia & Vanessa have on the Quality Coffee Podcast unravel patterns built because of how we were raised. In Hot & Unbothered, we dive into protection and how our parent’s version was more of sheltering us than anything. We didn’t feel prepared and confident entering our adult lives and too much was left for us to discover without guidance or information. We had to learn to be independent humans as very vulnerable people who became strong, confident and peaceful women but it cost us time, blood, sweat and tears.
We know now what we needed more of and thus we pass on the wisdom by raising Tonia’s daughters (who are Vanessa’s Nieces) with compassion, information, explanations, apologies when we get it wrong, and showing up for true quality time.
    We were told things like:
    Because I said so!
    That’s for me to know.
    You’re too young.
    Just go play.
This played into a lot of the insecurities we had to work through in our later years of life.
We don’t have them anymore because we worked so hard on self-love and self-acceptance. We found our own confidence instead of seeking it from other people.

  • Ep.50 The Interview

To celebrate 50 episodes we listened back to some of our earliest episodes. It feels incredible to already be celebrating such milestones together.

We are two midlife elder millennial sisters-in-law who are best friends and business partners navigating all of life together. Tonia is married to Vanessa's brother and the two spend all of their spare time talking about generational healing, planning their next Cabo vacation, perimenopause and taking over the world.

  • Ep.49 Two Perspectives: Macro Counting & Meal Prepping

When it comes to taking care of ourselves in our midlife era as Elder Millennials, reaching into the fridge for a balanced, healthy, already prepped meal is a kind of self-love that is next level.
There’s only so long where we will ignore the symptoms we feel from eating the foods we know aren’t great for us. The unfortunate thing, which has been true for both Tonia & Vanessa, is that food intolerances are growing increasingly challenging to work around. So we have to ask ourselves, is it worth sneaking a bit of gluten or are we ok with the crippling pain and gas that comes along with it?

The body keeps the score. It isn’t a secret what you feed yourself.
So we journal, ask for food sensitivity panels and we take the news with grace. Meal prepping is for optimal health so we can feel and be better humans. How our bodies feel directly impacts the capacity we have to work through stress, to make good decisions, to make responsible decisions. The most important thing we can do is lay the foundation for a healthy body and healthy mind.

  • Ep.48 Love Vs Capacity

Tonia & Vanessa packed a lot of goodies into episode 48 of the Quality Coffee Podcast including gems like the spoon theory and how others offer us their spoons in compassionate ways when they have enough to share, helpful and insightful tools from the great Brené Brown amongst some anecdotal stories from our own lives.

We break down the realizations we come to in our midlife era as Elder Millennial women leading us to check in every morning with ourselves before our feet even hit the floor. We can’t love openly and effortlessly when we are pouring from an empty cup, which requires a lot of awareness of the capacity you have on any given day. Are you assessing your capacity? How can you better prepare yourself for the day if you do know how many spoons you have to spend? And when you have more than you need do you share them with ease?
So much about being in our midlife era is about setting ourselves up for success. Elder Millennial women are doing everything we can to protect our peace and this is certainly an important part of the puzzle. Self-love. See-Compassion. Self-efficiency. Self-respect.

  • Ep.47 Reframing The Foundation Of Family

Following the theme of made up constructs, family systems come with all kinds of labels and expectations unique to you. Simply because you grew up in your family does not limit you to their previously held beliefs if they are incongruent with your life path. Your life is demanding you to live it completely so when one construct feels out of alignment, it’s up to you to be brave enough to take the wheel. Honest, vulnerable and supportive family will be proud of you for following your true path and not tear you down or guilt trip you. We have started seeing family in a different light, exposing the toxicity of “blood is thicker than water” if you’re being held back against your will. Choose you, choose your children.

And when it comes time for your children to choose for them and your children?

    Clap.

  • Ep.45 Realigning Your Energy

One of the most important themes in this episode was so many of us Elder Millennials gave up our authenticity for approval and acceptance.
Think about the first time you were conditioned to have this belief? When you learned to walk and we cheered for you and you learned that was how you can seek and earn approval.
In this episode Vanessa talks about how she was always taught to live for approval from a very young age and we deep dive into my midlife women are being more transparent, loving and communicative in our relationships .

  • Ep.44 Self Compassion

We women have a tendency to make to do lists and forget to add ourselves to it. Have you ever noticed your to-do list consists of work and kids and errands ... but none of it includes read one chapter of your book or call your sister to tell her your funny story from this morning.

In our midlife we are working on slowing down if our autoimmune diseases haven't beaten us to the punch. We need self-compassion more than almost anything in this time of our lives. Elder Millennials are seeking self discovery, self compassion. We are reconnecting to our own sense of humanness, to our intuition and that's building up super powers we didn't know we possessed. Self love.

In a world where we are viewed as "old women" struggling with just about anything and everything you can think of, we are the generation turning that narrative on its head. Nothing is wrong with us. If fact, we are steadily continuing our climb to the peak of our mountain and on our way up to these crazy new heights we've had to learn the toughest lessons of our lives.

Now we are standing below the summit making our plan to attempt to make it to the very top and when we look side to side we see our core women friends. In your forties you realize the true purpose of these relationships. They're to see you through everything. Nothing is off the table. Including this summit and every step of the descent back down the other side of the mountain.

They're with you to remind you to add self compassion to your daily to do list. They're there to help you prioritize it even above prioritizing them. That's why your village of women friends are so unique in our midlife experience. They're the only people in your lives who love you endlessly and will push you AWAY to tend to your own needs because they know you. They see you. They hear you. And they will sacrifice time and space with you so you can tend to your own needs first.

Self compassion is a commitment to yourself with yourself and with your women friends.

    Three cheers for that.
