**About Debbie Martin, RVT, CPDT-KA, KPA CTP, VTS (Behavior)**

Debbie is a Licensed Veterinary Technician, Veterinary Technician Specialist (Behavior), Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner, Karen Pryor Academy Faculty Emeritus, and Certified Professional Dog Trainer-Knowledge Assessed. With an interest in child development, Debbie obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in human ecology from Ohio State University. Debbie then went on to obtain an Associate of Applied Science degree in Veterinary Technology. She has been a full-time registered/licensed veterinary technician since 1996 and has been the Animal Behavior Technician for Veterinary Behavior Consultations since 2005. She is a member of The Society of Veterinary Behavior Technicians. Debbie is an Elite Fear Free Certified® Professional. Debbie is also a frequent lecturer at veterinary conferences and speaks internationally in the dog training world, including ClickerExpo. On this week’s Quick Cup of Knowledge, we visit with Dr. Stephen Jones at the Oquendo Center, where he was busy instructing a Principles of Fracture Repair course. Dr. Jones details what signs we should be looking for during an exam to see if our patients are in pain, as well as what kind of thought process he uses to decide whether a patient is a good candidate for surgery.

Dr. Kristen Messenger is an assistant professor of anesthesiology at North Carolina State University. She is a North Carolina native and completed her DVM and residency training at NCSU. She became board-certified in veterinary anesthesiology in 2010, and in veterinary clinical pharmacology in 2014. Dr. Messenger runs the Comparative Pharmacology and Anesthesiology Laboratory at NCSU. Her research studies the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of analgesic drugs in veterinary species. Most recently he became one of the first Veterinary Cannabis Counselor Specialists in the country while continuing to educate veterinary professionals on safe and effective use of cannabis in the clinical setting.
