Welcome to Glenn Robison’s Rapidly Rotating Records, bringing you vintage music to which you can’t *not* tap your toes, from rapidly rotating 78 RPM records of the 1920s and ’30s.
I hope you are all safe and healthy and doing as OK as you can be given the current world situation and stay-at-home orders. I hope this hour of music gives you a bit of diversion and entertainment. After having birthday salutes for some obscure artists and composers over the past few weeks, there are no birthday celebrations this week. In other segments, we’re going to hear about some wild cats, get paid off, call on the brigade and see if we can sell some things. Thanks for listening! Wash your hands and stay safe!
I’m happy to report that the KISL website is back up and running! Listen to all the great programming streaming online 24/7 at www.KISLAvalon.com.

I hope you are all safe and healthy and doing as OK as you can be given the current world situation and stay-at-home orders. I hope this hour of music gives you a bit of diversion and entertainment. On this evening’s show we’re going to start by celebrating the birthday of Pinchas Goldfein who was better known professionallyl as Paul Godwin. I was unfamiliar with him, but I’m certainly glad I was enlightened by listener Rich in Illinois, who suggested the segment. In the second segment, Curley Weaver gets his own birthday segment. I played his song “Tricks Ain’t Walkin’ No More” on last week’s show. Other segment topics this week have to do with in-laws, what I got, and being busy. Thanks for listening! On this week’s show we’re going to take a musical trip to Scotland and enjoy some Scotch! We’ll also kick the bucket, and the third segment is going to be a real drag. In the second segment, we’re going to go caving. I’d say spelunking, but spelunking has a negative connotation these days. The word spelunk comes from Middle English, meaning cave. It’s derived from the Latin spelunca, or the Greek spelynx, which also means cave. A similar word is used in Dutch (spelonk), meaning a ‘cavity in a mountain’, and German (Spelunke). In German, the use has changed to ‘a scruffy bar or pub’. Speleology is the scientific study of caves and the first official use of the word was in 1885 when Edouard Martel founded the Société de Spéléologie. A scientist who studies caves is called a speleologist. Caving is the official name for the international sport and a caver is someone who is knowledgable, uses the right equipment, and is prepared. Cavers go deeper, they want to explore new cave networks, and push the envelope. Spelunkers are inexperienced amateurs with no training using inappropriate equipment. So now that you know more about caving than you ever wanted to, enjoy the caving segment!
