On today’s episode of Raw Intentions, we sat down with Madi Nickens, creator & dreamer behind the famous trucker hat business, Hat’s by Madi, or @hatsbymadi on instagram. Madi & I met a few years ago through doing business together; I wanted to make hats for R&R, and had no idea where to start. A friend sent me her instagram, and from there, we never turned back. Now, 3 years later, we’ve created thousands of hats together, and I wouldn’t have that side of our business without her. Madi’s success as an entrepreneur has truly been a whirlwind. She was a Covid success story; she tells us about making hats out of boredom during the summer of 2020 for friends & family to wear on the water. The business almost created itself from there, as the demand for the trucker style baseball cap absolutely exploded. From learning wtf an invoice was, to signing MASSIVE clients, like Buckle, Madi takes us through it all. We talk about the learning curve of owning your own business, growing out of spaces and the scary leaps you take as a business owner, hiring employees, the struggle of work/life balance, the importance of influencer marketing, doing wholesale markets like Dallas & Atlanta, and what her plans are for the future. On this week of Raw Intentions Podcast, we welcome Rachel Deeb to the stage. The stage, you see, isn’t a foreign place for Rachel to perch herself on. From taking grad photos for students at the University of Alabama, to making pamphlets and posing as a… cookie baker? To present day, touring with various bands across the country, taking the stage to capture fleeting, beautiful moments of other musicians and creatives. Let’s rewind a moment, though. A California native turned Nashvillian, Rachel’s always had an artistic flair, and a work ethic & familial support system to back it up. She held various jobs after college, and after being pushed to freelance from working with a local boxing club, she never turned back. What started as a side hustle quickly turned into a full blown, VERY fast paced career. Rachel dove head first into the music industry; touring and & taking photos for artists like Lainey Wilson, Maren Morris, and more big names, which she soft launches in this episode (hint hint). While taking music by storm and living out of a tour bus, she also found time to create custom artwork, clothing, murals, and recently taught herself how to tattoo. So yes, not only is she our modern day Renaissance woman, but she’s also a wealth of knowledge. Throughout our conversations, we talk about creative endeavors, monetizing your hobbies, learning to say no (unless your FAVORITE band asks you to go on a European tour for the summer), pricing your work and pricing yourself, imposter syndrome, dating, and overall knowing your core “Why” and your worth as a creative, and the importance of having those grounding beliefs in yourself. She’s lived many lives and traveled far and wide; experiences that she’s held tight and taken with her as she built and co-founded her incredible brand, Eleven Eleven. Eleven Eleven, or @elevenelevenus was dreamt up as her and her boyfriend, James, sat on the beach in Hawaii. Only a year and a half old, they’ve worked their asses off and learned so much along the way through success and failures. Today on the podcast, please give the warmest welcome to our guest, Dr. Greg Louie, otherwise known as @the_ski_pt. THE physical therapist of the hour, specializing in helping injured skiers get back to the ski hill. I came across Dr. Greg’s page via a reel that found it’s way on my feed. As someone that’s torn their ACL skiing, I gave him a follow, as it seemed he knew a thing or two about ACL’s. After skiing all his life, getting his doctorate, and working in the field for a number of years, Dr. Greg discovered a HUGE gap in treatment. There is a huge difference between getting baseline mobility and strength back, and being truly ready to ski. The muscles and balance and specific movements required to ski with a lower risk of injury or re-injury is incredibly unique to the sport, and it takes a special doctor to recognize that. He has since broken away from his 9-5, and started his own online personalized coaching service, as well as released numerous courses specialized for skiers. Our conversations were so valuable for anyone that skis; whether you’ve suffered an injury, or want to prevent one, or just want to learn more about that realm of sport and recovery, this is the episode for you. Introducing the famous Zoe Clark to Raw Intentions, and I couldn’t be more thrilled. Zoe is a 24 year old Connecticut native that moved to Nashville to pursue her dream of becoming a singer/songwriter and musician! And boy is she doing just that. I’m quite a novice to the music industry, so these conversations were incredibly interesting. On today’s episode, I take a beat to update y’all on my life. I feel like SO much has happened in the last month, and before we dive into a couple months with tons of interviews, I took a selfish solo moment. I recap March and all of the fun and shitty things that occurred in between. Travels to sunny LA, South Carolina, and lots of Colorado travels to Aspen, Steamboat, Vail, and Golden. My parents were in town for 3 weeks, I hit some major relationship milestones, as well as some major relationship speed bumps, had some very sad mental health moments, skied SO much, had exciting and no bueno work things with Raw & Rebellious, and all the while took to instagram and pretended to be peachy. For episode 40, we welcome to the stage the lovely Mackenzie Andrews. Mackenzie and I met years ago, and I’m so glad we did. She is incredibly real, hilarious, outspoken, loyal, and genuine as they come. We sat down while Ford, her son, took a nap, and she had a few moments to chat. Raised in the south, marrying her college sweetheart turned NFL football player, and entering into a life of lots of unknown, Mack has SO much life experience and nuggets of wisdom to share. She’s a new mom, a wife, newly dirty thirty, and a vet to NFL life and all that it comes with - or the “League” as she refers to it. We chat about her background, how she knew David was the one, relationship advice, being a new mom, going through hard transitions throughout her 20’s, how to prioritize friendships, and most importantly, how to prioritize YOURSELF through all that life throws at you, despite your identity constantly shifting.
