Today on the podcast, we’ve got special guest, Kate Sbarra Dorgan. What hasn’t this woman done? Kate’s worn many hats throughout her life; student of history and the arts, museum curator, corporate america constituent, entrepreneur, store owner, and creative. I’ve known Kate for quite some time, having both been in the small business and creative marketplace in the south east, but learned SO much from these conversations. She gives fantastic advice on life, going for your dreams, business, and the dangers of comparison. We swap stories on our journeys, and she tells the story of how her famous Nashville shop, Alexis & Bolt, came to be. How she ensured its success within the community and made it much more than just a “store” from the very beginning, and how she knew it was time to walk away. Today, we celebrate, as Raw Intentions turns 1 years old! I can’t believe it’s already been a year, and we can officially say that we’ve made it to Season 2 of the podcast. Wild! Today, we take a beat and reflect on the last year of podcasting- challenges, triumphs, and what I’ve learned about podcasting thus far. I then walk you through my last 10 days of solo travel through Budapest, Albania, Montenegro, Bosnia, and Croatia. I talk about things I wish I knew, travel advice, the do’s and do not’s of each country I visited, the people I’ve met, and what I’ve learned along the way. On today’s episode, we’ve got special guest Marina Hane. Marina & I connected years ago via Instagram- she’s an influencer, and I sent her jewelry to help me promote Raw & Rebellious, my brand. Now, after recording this episode, I can proudly call her a friend. Marina is such a beautiful, insightful, creative, and intelligent soul. A Florida native, she grew up modeling from an early age, and almost made it as a young actress. As she held various odd jobs in high school and wanted a creative outlet, she turned to influencing. This was far before being a creator or an influencer had been coined, and she recounts the days of going door to door and asking for money in exchange for photos and content. A true pioneer! From content creation to shifting friendships in your 20s, to relationship advice and how to know when he’s “the one,” to productivity hacks, to partying; Marina and I truly talk about it all. After a transformative weight loss surgery & the pandemic, he decided to risk it all and pursue his dream of being a musician. So he moved to Nashville, completely on his own, and took the leap necessary to pursue the life he’s always hoped for. We discuss moving somewhere new and embracing going against the grain What its like being gay in the country music industry, and how music has helped him embrace his individuality. We discuss the therapeutic nature of song writing, helping Brady through life’s hardships- like his brother’s incarceration, breakups, leaving his hometown, and other mental health struggles. On a rainy day in Ostuni, Italy, amidst my first few weeks of traveling, I decided to record a life update episode. This is a solo episode- just me, myself, and I. I talk about our travels thus far, shit that’s hit the fan, the lessons I hope to learn from my time abroad, my favorite parts of my trip, and things I’ve learned from my travel companions. I also get candid about my recent breakup, and how I’ve been coping. There’s a lot I hope to get out of this summer spent in Europe, other than a tan and some fun stories. I want to learn more about myself, get out of my own way, shut down limiting beliefs + constricting practices I’ve fallen into, and come back a better version of myself. Welcome back to Raw Intentions Podcast. On this week’s episode, we’re joined by the founder & CEO of booming wholesale jewelry brand, Alco Jewelry, Megan Suttle. Megan unofficially began her journey with her jewels in 2020. She worked as a hairstylist at a salon and began making jewelry as a creative outlet to sell to her hair clients. What began as a small side hustle, was made into an official business and full-time job in 2021, and Alco was born. Alco was created to fill a gap Megan found in the market. Affordable, unique pieces that are truly water resistant. A water baby to her core, she found herself continuously frustrated with rings turning her fingers green after being worn in the water. Clearly, she was not alone in that want, as her shop has skyrocketed since launching. In just 3 years, from making jewelry herself in her bedroom, she now has an office space, a renovated VW van, many employees, and dream clients. Megan shares her secrets to success, mistakes she’s made, and what she learned from them, hiring and managing employees, staying unique, and utilizing social media and in-person markets to grow. We relate to the many woes of being a 28-year-old business owner, and the ways she’s attempting to work through those hardships. She also talks about the struggles of making friends in a new city, loneliness, relationship advice, and her love of fitness. Excited for this episode, and so thankful for these conversations. In this week's episode, we welcome Macey Boyd to the podcast. Macey Boyd is a health and fitness coach, CEO, content creator, and personal trainer. She was my personal trainer back in 2018, which is how we met! Although I’ve known her for years, these conversations took us both far deeper, and I so enjoyed getting to know Macey on a profound level. We discussed disordered eating behaviors, the negative mental health connotations with the fitness industry, and how it can improve your life. We’ve both struggled with body image, food, and binge drinking. Macey opened up about much of her personal life;  the highs and very low lows she experienced, in order to get to the balanced, healthy, happy life she leads today. She also shares fitness tips, myths, and things to focus on in your own health journey. We talk a lot about pregnancy too, as Macey is moving through her first pregnancy! We talked at great length about her experiences thus far, habits she’s instilled, body image woes, self-confidence shifts, and hormonal changes that people don’t talk about, and how she hopes to fill the gap she sees for pregnant women in the health and wellness space. I’m having a bit of deja vu, it seems. Around this time last year, I was woefully sad about a boy; and here I am, crying over a man yet again. I'll tell you what- dealing with heartache, breakups, timing not timing for you perfectly, fights, rejection, loneliness, and relationship hardships are awful. I’ve experienced all of these things from multiple angles.  I've learned a lot, and now have a lot of tools in my toolbox to cope in a healthy(ish) way. Alli Bridgers, a new friend of mine, is going through her own break up & heartache, so we decided to move through it together and talk about it on the podcast. On today’s episode of Raw Intentions, we dive into all things heartbreak, finding happiness in new singleness, knowing when to pull the plug on a relationship, dating, sadness, loneliness, the comparison game, and how to find that love and happiness again within yourself. To feel ALL the things, lean on friends when you need to, and be patient with yourself. Alli is a bit farther along in the grieving process than I am, so it was so nice hearing her perspective; I got some really fabulous advice myself from her wise words. At the time we recorded this, I could feel my own relationship crumbling as it happened, and knew something awful was around the corner. My gut always speaks to me loudly, and we discuss the importance of listening to your gut, always. If you’re going through this yourself, I am SO sorry. I recorded another episode last year when I dealt with rejection and loneliness for the first time, Boys Lie & Hot Girls Cry. On today’s episode of Raw Intentions, we sat down with Madi Nickens, creator & dreamer behind the famous trucker hat business, Hat’s by Madi, or @hatsbymadi on instagram. Madi & I met a few years ago through doing business together; I wanted to make hats for R&R, and had no idea where to start. A friend sent me her instagram, and from there, we never turned back. Now, 3 years later, we’ve created thousands of hats together, and I wouldn’t have that side of our business without her. Madi’s success as an entrepreneur has truly been a whirlwind. She was a Covid success story; she tells us about making hats out of boredom during the summer of 2020 for friends & family to wear on the water. The business almost created itself from there, as the demand for the trucker style baseball cap absolutely exploded. From learning wtf an invoice was, to signing MASSIVE clients, like Buckle, Madi takes us through it all. We talk about the learning curve of owning your own business, growing out of spaces and the scary leaps you take as a business owner, hiring employees, the struggle of work/life balance, the importance of influencer marketing, doing wholesale markets like Dallas & Atlanta, and what her plans are for the future.
