The Commanders offense was not good. In the first half the longest drive they had was only 4 plays and once again found themselves down 14-0. Sam Howell was sacked 5 times against a team that came into the game with 5 sacks all season.
Defense was a little better but still allowed the Giants to score 14 points. Tyrod Taylor managed the offense well and kept the ball moving. But in the 2nd half, Washington’s defense took over and sacked Taylor 4 times. They forced 2 turnovers, one on special teams and a strip fumble of Saquon Barkley as the Giants were driving to score.
The Commanders still had a chance to tie the game late and had a 4th and 2 at the 3 yard line but Jahan Dotson could not hold onto the pass from Howell and New York was able to kneel twice for the win.
We give our Instant Reaction on another humiliating loss.
Washington broke their 3 game losing streak last week by picking off Atlanta quarterback Desmond Ridder 3 times in route to a 24-16 victory. They look to keep the momentum going when they take on the New York Giants. The Giants on the other hand are in total disarray. Their offensive line is in shambles and quarterback Daniel Jones will most likely not play. Their defense is in the Bottom 3 in most categories and is ranked 31st against the run giving up 147.5 yards. What does each team need to do to get an important win? So much more in this game preview. Let’s gooooooo!
Before getting to Matt Simms, Nathan & Stoner give updates on injuries for both the Washington Commanders and New York Giants heading into Sunday’s game at Met Life stadium in New Jersey.
They also talk about Stoner’s Power Rankings and how he moved the Philadelphia Eagles all the way to #8 on his list. Is this justified?
Matt Simms from Simms Complete on the Bleav Network joined to talk about a variety of topics to include why he hates the Florida Gators, how hard it is to play QB in the NFL and quite a bit on the development of Sam Howell and if Sam can become the quarterback Washington hopes he can be.
All of that and more on the Daily Commanders Update. Let’s goooooo!
The New York Giants can’t stop the run. They average giving up 147.5 yards per game on the ground. While the narrative is out there that Washington’s O-line can’t run block, they actually average 4.3 yards per carry which is 11th in the league. The problem is they don’t run enough. They average about 21 carries per game which is 30th in the league. They need to run more.
On the other side of the ball, the Giants O-line is decimated by injuries. They are starting guys from the practice squads of other teams and guys who literally were on their couch last week. So the front 4 or 5 of Washington needs to dominate and stop Saquon Barkley. Tyrod Taylor is not going to beat you.
We look at who missed practice today and Kendall Fuller did not practice for the 2nd day in a row. That’s a concern. We also addressed the trade rumor of Chase Young. The trade deadline is just a couple weeks away.
Lastly, Stoner has a film session to look at how well Khaleke Hudson played against Atlanta and is pushing for more playing time.
All of that and more on your Daily Commanders Update. Let’s gooooooo!
Brian Robinson cracks 150 yards rushing? Jahan Dotson touchdown in a bounce back game? Sam Howell in a clean pocket? Okay, that one might be too bold. Ref the District goes over all their BOLD predictions and their game scores.
The Washington Commanders were able to hold on the road for a victory in week 6. Can they best the New York Giants at home to start a winning streak? Ref the District goes over their chances and why they think Brian Robinson is THE key to victory.
Sam Howell is at the top of the charts in sack total, but that didn't stop him from topping this QB stat this week. Phidarian Mathis hints at his return. Who will he replace on this stud defensive line? And the NFL takes a look at the head coach hiring system. Can that impact the Commanders if they look to move on from Ron Rivera? This and more on your Daily Commanders Update.
Atlanta had a 5 game home winning streak dating back to last year and Desmond Ridder had not lost at home dating all the way back to college. However, Washington used a resilient defensive effort and forced 3 interceptions on their way to ending their own 3 game losing streak.
For the first time this year the special teams played an important role. Jamison Crowder had a big punt return and Tress Way was back to his usual self.
Defensively Washington had to endure 83 plays. But still they only surrendered 16 points. Interceptions by Kendall Fuller, Benjamin St-Juste and Jamin Davis were crucial in leading the defense.
Sam Howell was effective in the first half and threw for 3 touchdowns. He targeted Terry McLaurin 11 times and was pretty sharp most of the game although he was sacked another 5 times and is still on pace to shatter the all-time sack record.
Overall they got a win which evened their record to 3-3. Now it’s on to New York. Let’s goooooo!
Washington jumped out to a 17-10 first half lead as Sam Howell threw 2 touchdown passes. Antonio Gibson and Curtis Samuel caught the passes as the Commanders had only their 2nd halftime lead of the season.
The second half was a struggle. And somehow the beleaguered Washington defense stood tall and intercepted Falcons 2nd year quarterback Desmond Ridder 3 times and outscored them 7-6 to hold on to the victory.
There were many heroes and still some things to work on but it was a much needed victory for the Commanders. Let’s gooooooo!
