Refill Your Tank: 3 Ordinary Miracles to Revive Your Gratitude

Listen Later

Welcome, friend. I'm Julia Cartwright, and I'm so glad you're here with me today. It's Saturday morning as I'm recording this, and I'm willing to bet that somewhere in your week, you felt like you were running on fumes. Maybe you're facing a January day where the initial sparkle of new year resolutions has worn off, or perhaps you're just tired of the grind. That's exactly why we're here together, because gratitude has this beautiful way of refueling us when we need it most.

Let's start by getting comfortable where you are right now. If you can, find a spot where you won't be interrupted for the next few minutes. Sit however feels natural, whether that's in a chair with your feet on the ground or cross-legged on a cushion. There's no perfect position here, just you and this moment.

Now, let's settle your nervous system with some intentional breathing. Breathe in slowly through your nose for a count of four, feeling that cool air travel down. Hold it for just a moment. Then exhale through your mouth for a count of four, like you're releasing the weight of the week. Do this three more times at your own pace. Notice how your shoulders might drop slightly, how your chest opens just a little more with each breath.

Here's where the magic happens. I want you to think about three small things from your week that you might have walked right past. Not the big wins, not the vacations or promotions. I'm talking about the ordinary miracles. Maybe it's that your coffee was still hot at nine in the morning. Maybe someone held a door for you, or you received a text from someone you care about. Perhaps your body carried you through another week, or you laughed at something ridiculous.

Take about a minute here and let these three small things surface in your mind. As each one appears, notice it in your body. Does your chest feel warmer? Does your jaw soften? Gratitude isn't just a thought; it's a felt experience. Sit with each memory for just a breath or two.

Now here's my challenge for you today: choose one of these three things and actually name it. Out loud if you can, or whisper it. There's power in speaking our gratitude into existence. It makes it real.

As you move through the rest of your day, keep that feeling with you like a warm sweater. When you notice yourself feeling rushed or irritated, pause and remember one of those small moments. That's your anchor.

Thank you so much for spending this time with me on Gratitude Practice, Daily Mindfulness Reflections for Happiness. If this resonated with you, please subscribe so we can meet here again soon. You deserve this peace.
