  • Episode 346: The Old Guard
The Old Guard is one of the hottest flix on NetFlix right now. Based on a comic by Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernández, it stars Charlize Theron, with Chiwwtel Ejiofor (Mordo in Doctor Strange) and a lot of other people you will only sort of recognize, like the bad guy …. who was Dudley Dursley in the Harry Potter films. Like a bazillion or so other people the Regular Joes checked it out and give you their take. Note while they initially make an effort to steer clear of SPOILERS that kind of falls apart quickly. Oh, and while they're at it they spoil the comic too. Which, paradoxically, Tod did not read first. Also, the Wand Company, the people who brought you a bunch of Sonic Screwdrivers, and a superb Star Trek TOS phaser and Communicator, are back with a product announcement that is both unique and exciting for Trek fans. There's also the usual Random Topics and yet another round of What's in the Box because, frankly, these guys can't help themselves. Thanks for listening! And remember, heroes wear masks.

  • Episode 345: In Space, No One Can Hear You Groan
This week the Joes acknowledge the 40th Anniversary of Saturn 3, Their second favorite Sci Fi film with Farrah Fawcett in the cast (Note: there were only two.) Conceived in the mind of visionary Star Wars set designer John Barry, Saturn 3, underwent management changes mid stream resulting in a what the late Roger Ebert described as "awesomely stupid, totally implausible," and "a shameful waste of money." And yet the Joes committed 1 hour and 36 minutes of their lives to it anyway. Go figure. They also check out the trailer/preview of Star Trek: Lower Decks the first Trek Toon since 1974, which humorously goes where the long lived franchise has never gone before. There's also a round of What's in the Box and the usual Random Topics. Thanks for listening!

  • Episode 344: Joes and Bros - July Edition
With everything that's going on and everything that's not, sometimes it's nice to just have some time to kick back and hang out with your friends. This was one of those weeks. Joined by Derryl DePriest, and Brian Mix, Barry, Dave and Tod cover a wide range of topics from the genius of the late Carl Reiner, the glacial pace vs. the conceptual brilliance of 2001 a Space Odyssey, and why Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. picked now to finally get so damned good. On the Final Frontier ... er, front, Dave makes the trek to the just reopened Star Trek Set Tour in Ticonderoga New York, which would have been the best Trek related experience anyone has had in months, until Brian laid down the "I just hung out with Bjo and John Trimble" card. He Won. Note: if you don't know the name Bjo Trimble, seriously, Google her. Thanks for listening, and hanging out with us!

  • Episode 343: Deferred Daily Drive Dividends
You know how the last several weeks episodes have been very focused and thematic, yeah well, this one is not that. With no particular agenda the Regular Joes catch up on Random Topics, bid adieu to Sir Ian Holm and the guy who thought putting nipples on the bat suit was a good idea. Then there's some Shirt Up, because that's still apparently a thing, and a round of What's in The Box. In lieu of any other plan the hosts then catch up on projects they have been working on in their recovered daily commute time as well as several they plan to take on. That's about it. Ok, so there's also some morbid talk about what happens to your stuff when you die. Seriously, have a plan. Thanks for listening!

  • Episode 342: Flash Back
Ok, let's try this again. This week the Regular hosts, plus adjunct Joe Derryl DePriest take a look at another of Barry's long-time sentimental favorite films Flash Gordon (1980). In what might seem a set up doomed to repeat "The Willow incident" the gang actually find several things they like about the film ... in addition to the several aspects they did not so much go for. It's all good. The relative merits of Flash Gordon aside, they all love Sam Jones. As Everyone should. Particularly those who have seen Life After Flash the 2017 documentary (currently available on Amazon Prime) that both gives insights into the cult classic film and an overview of Sam's often tumultuous journey following his early brush with fame. Following the episode is The Regular Joes 2017 interview with Sam Jones ... which at times can easily be confused with Sam interviewing them. Seriously, if you get the chance you have to hang out with this guy. Along the way the Green Power Ranger shows up (nope, not making this up) and they get a a few minutes to chat with Flash Gordon CoStar Melody Anderson. Thanks for Listening! Flash! Ah-ah, Savior of the universe. Flash! Ah-ah, He'll save everyone of us …

  • Episode 341: Simon Pegg's Pants
Auctions can be very dangerous. Back in March The Prop Store held an auction that included screen used items from the JJ Abrams, or Kelvin universe, series of Star Trek films. While we understand these films aren't universally embraced by Star Trek fans, they are one of the rare things that all three Regular Joe's agree they like. Which makes an auction like this, yes, very dangerous. For this week's What's in the Box our hosts dive into the long-awaited box of Treky goodness they bid on months ago and discover a few interesting surprises along the way. Also, they take a look back at the films from that series and assess how they hold up, and, in some cases, where they went wrong, as well as where, if anywhere, they should go from here. And, as always there's the usual Random Topics. Live long and prosper ... or spend money as the case my be. Thanks for listening!

  • Episode 340: Star Piercer of Shield
This week The Regular Joes dive into a duo of new series and a returning show that at one time was an RJP favorite…The CW's Star Girl, TNT's Snow Piercer and ABCs Marvels Agents of Shield. Did the new shows spark any interest? Will the Joes keep watching or give up after the pilot? And how does the premiere of the final season of Shield hold up to the best and worst of the show? We also serve up our typical feast of Random Topics and wrap things up with a discussion of our latest collectible deliveries with a little segment we call What's in the Box. Thanks for Listening, and please Stay Safe!

  • Episode 339: Prop Culture Gallery
This week The Regular Joes welcome back restorer of iconic props, and creator of cool things Tom Spina of Regal Robot and Tom Spina Designs to talk about two shows on Disney + that are not the Mandalorian...sort of. First up it's Disney Prop Culture which takes a reverent look at many of the surviving props from several of the memorable films in Disney's pantheon, including Mary Poppins, The Chronicles of Narnia and Tron. Then it's on to Disney Gallery / Star Wars: The Mandalorian, which takes a deep dive on the various elements that go into making the first ever live action Star Wars series as well as the ethos behind the franchise itself. There's also the usual Random topics and a bonus sized round of What's in the Box. Thanks for Listening, and Stay Safe!

  • Episode 338: Magnificent Seven
For seven years Barry, Dave and Tod have been getting together, more or less, each week to record the Regular Joes Podcast. This week is whole lot like the other 337. They start with a plan, and then get somewhat sidetracked during random topics. Next they get caught up on current projects with What's on My Workbench. Then, on Barry's recommendation everyone checked out Amazon Prime's Upload. Ok, so if you have been paying attention you know Barry tends to grade things on a curve. So how does this particular suggestion hold up? Lastly there a round of What's in the Box. SPOILER Barry has a vintage Star Wars item, Dave has a Watch and Tod has a book. They never even get to one of their planned topics, but hey that's what the next seven years are for. Thanks for listening and stay safe!

  • Episode 337: Implausible vs. Indecipherable
In this week's episode the Regular Joe's take a look at the wrap ups of two very different premium cable series. After nine years and eight seasons, Showtime's Homeland takes a bow. At this point fans who have stuck with this show have spent nearly a decade with Clare Dane's bipolar CIA operative Carrie Mathison. We've been with her through highs, and lows, and some even lower lows. Nevertheless, despite gaping plot holes, storylines that strain the very limits of credulity, and lots of exceptionally bad life choices, we will miss this Sunday staple espionage/action drama. In hindsight it really is one of those shows that holds up best the less you think about it. On the flipside HBO's Westworld just finished its third season. Three years in and we still haven't got a freaking clue what's going on. This season they brought in Breaking Bad's Aaron Paul, and even he never seemed to have any more idea what was happening then we did. Sure, It's gorgeous to look at, but at some point is the show supposed to make sense? With a fourth season already announced it's hard to imagine where they go from here. Honestly, we probably won't know better even after we've seen it. We also have a round of What's in the Box, our weekly update on who will be in the Mandalorian next season as well as other Random Topics. Thanks for listening and stay safe!
