In this episode of Remaker’s Mark we take a look at the Oscar winning 1984 biopic Amadeus. Here in part 1 we tackle remaking the major roles (Amadeus and Salieri), as well as several minor roles. Kyle might have gone off the deep end with his minor casting choice – stick around and find out who (or what) that could be!

Special Thanks
It’s been said that good casting is 90% of directing, and we here at Remaker’s Mark couldn’t agree more. In this, our third Special Episode, we focus on our favorite casting choices of all time. Those roles that we couldn’t possibly imagine being played by anyone else. This also happens to be the first Remaker’s Mark episode with special guests in addition to the usual hosts, namely Joshua Freeman, Kate O’Reilly, and Pete Basgen. They brought both great choices and tremendous energy to the episode, which I hope is the first of many of this sort. Enjoy!

In Part 2 of our discussion of My Fair Lady we reveal who we chose to recast the major and minor roles. Kyle discusses his love/hate (mostly hate) relationship with musicals, and we ponder whether the remake should also be a musical. History buff Mark considers alternate times and places for a remake, finding parallels and opportunities in Sparta, Colonial India, and in the time of the Vikings. Finally, we again contemplate Henry Higgins’ misogyny, and the troubles we had with the ending of the movie (managing to compare it to that of The Sopranos, of all things).

Next Episode’s Movie – Amadeus
In this first part of our discussion of the multiple Oscar winning 1964 musical ‘My Fair Lady’, we recast the three major roles, as well as five minor roles, and manage to alienate several populations (musical fans, Hungarians, and dancers) along the way.

You might think that, given the nature of Remaker’s Mark, we’re game for remaking any and every movie out there. But you’d be wrong! In fact, there are some movies that we consider ‘Untouchables’. Not the actual movie Untouchables, but rather, movies that we would never ever want to see remade. This podcast is a discussion of a few of these movies, and why we consider them untouchable.
