iPhones aren’t waterproof?! https://www.brilliant.org/reneritchie and sign up for FREE. First 200 also get 20% the annual Brilliant subscription!
While you may think your iPhone — your any phone really! — is waterproof, it isn’t. It’s not even really water-resistant, not for all water, not all the time. It’s…. complicated. But in this video, I’m going to explain to you why that is, what you can do about it, and most importantly, what Apple could do about it with the iPhone 12 — or the iPhone after that.
I’ll even toss in a Shyamalan twist in at the end. (A good one from the first few films!)

Microsoft Joins Epic Battle! https://www.brilliant.org/reneritchie and sign up for FREE. First 200 also get 20% the annual Brilliant subscription!
Epic Games mega-snuck the biggest of all shadow bombs onto the App Store and Play Store — a way around giving Apple and Google a 30% cut of all the Vbucks. As a result, Fortnite, their uber-popular Battle Royaler, got shadow banned. Still on phones and download histories, but kicked out of the stores. Epic sued, saying no company — sorry, no *phone* company — had a right to 30% of their tasty, tasty emote and skin sale billions.
Epic called Apple a controlling, conniving, anti-competitive monopolist, and Google, open-in-name only, while fear-mongering and outright bullying to stay effectively every bit as closed.
Apple and Google retorted that Epic was a grown apps adult, had agreed to the deal, made billions as a result, and was now throwing a temper tantrum to try and claw back just a few billion more.
And, now, impossible as it may seem, things just got weirder.
Apple threatened Epic’s Unreal Engine. Epic filed for a temporary restraining order. Microsoft filed in support of the order. Here’s the latest update!

If you think Apple Silicon is just about giving us MacBooks that are more like iPads, well, then you, my friend, are 100%, completely, out-of-your-mind-palace wrong.
It’s also about giving us iMacs that are more like iPads.
Wait… what?
Yeah. The rumors are talking new iPad Pro-inspired design, potential Mini-LED, ProMotion display, Apple system-on-a-chip, maybe Face ID, USB 4/Thunderbolt 4 Ports, and more!

iPhone 12 Event! It's Preview time! Get CuriosityStream AND Nebula for less than $15/y (26% off!) https://curiositystream.com/reneritchie
The lights go dark. The music pauses. A spotlight hits the stage. Tim Cook strides out. “Good morning! Good morning!” The Apple Logo hits the screen. The iPhone 12 event… Is.. on.
Any other year. Any other year. This is exactly what all of us would have been waiting all summer long for. But 2020… just *isn’t* any other year. 2020 is like, I don’t know… the Devlin Emmerich of years.
So, instead… instead of the usual September iPhone event, we’ll probably be getting something else, something virtual, something… maybe even in early October.
WWDC has already shown how we might be getting it. Drone shot. Speed ramp. Transition. Steady cam. But what exactly will we be getting?
TV, Watch, iPad, StudioPods, AirTags, iPhones… so many iPhones. And maybe, just maybe, some one more Apple Silicon things?
Well, I’m going to break it down for you, all of it, and right now!

Epic Games, the company behind the massively popular Fortnite franchise, declared Battle Royale on Apple and Google this week, flagrantly defying both platforms’ locked-down in-app payment policies. In retaliation, Apple and Google kicked Fortnight off the App and Play stores. Which is… pretty much exactly what Epic was waiting for. Because they sued. Instantly. Not for money. Not to get back onto the stores. Not even to get their own payment options. No. But to get their own store.
Yeah, it’s just so much drama. So much spin. So. Much. Money. And I’m going to explain all of it to you, tell you exactly what’s really going on, and I’m going to do it right now.

I’m beyond super excited about the potential for a new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro — running Apple Silicon, with mini LED, Face ID, USB4, 5G, WiFI6, and much, much more.
Here’s why!

Microsoft has accused Apple of refusing to allow their upcoming Xbox Game Pass Ultimate service onto the iPhone and iPad App Stores.
If you’re not familiar with it, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, formerly Project xCloud, promises to let you stream over 100 Xbox games to your phone or tablet for $15 a month.
Essentially, to be the Netflix or Spotify — the TV+ or Apple Music — of games. All you can play with just one monthly price to pay.
And Microsoft isn’t the only company pushing a service like this. Far from it. Google, Nvidia, Facebook — basically everyone in games is getting into or wants to get into… this game.
And Apple’s having none-of-it, not on the iOS App Store at least.
And it’s seriously enraged Microsoft… and a lot of iPhone and iPad users who also want them some Xbox on iOS.
So, what’s going on?

iPhone 12 delayed! Right after Apple’s CFO, Luca Maestri, said new iPhones would come a few weeks later than usual this year, the socials, the comments, the commentarians, they all just… exploded. Scorching, incandescent hottest of hot takes… everywhere.
And this time market movers didn’t even get to plant their usual rumors with their usual big media enablers to cover their positions. It came straight from Apple. Imagine the chagrin. Short. No. Stop. Cover. Cover. Cover. Ridiculous.
Even though, the instant Apple went into lockdown earlier in the spring and has since been on work-from-home, everyone and their astromech knew, just knew it would cause all shades of product delays, we just had to treat this as shocking news… and I-told-you-sos… contortionisticaly at the same time.
So what does it all really mean? For the iPhone 12, iOS 14, and Apple Watch Series 6?

The new 27-inch iMac (2020) is here — 10-core Comet Lake with Radeon Pro 5700XT and T2 — and I’ve spent the last 24-hours hammering on it.

These are the decisions Apple made with the brand new iMac, what I think about them, and who it’s for!
