In this episode Millie and Olivia chat to Carolyn Costin. They discuss the Healthy Self/Eating Disorder Self concept, the importance of exploring what needs your eating disorder is meeting, and some useful tips for assisting in the integration of the two selves.
Carolyn is a world renowned eating disorder clinician, author, and international speaker. Recovered from anorexia in her twenties, as a young therapist Carolyn recognised her calling after successfully treating her first eating disorder client. Carolyn was first to publicly take the position that people with eating disorders can become fully recovered.
After 15 years in private practice and running hospital programs, Carolyn was determined to improve the relapse rate and recognised a gap in the eating disorder field. She opened Monte Nido - the first residential facility in a home setting, surrounded by nature, where evidenced based treatment was combined with alternative therapies such as meditation and yoga and clients were “retrained” to shop for, prepare and cook food.
Carolyn’s contributions to the field are extensive. Her six books, service in every major eating disorder organisation, three decades of training professionals worldwide, free study groups and the outstanding success of Monte Nido all spurred Carolyn to international acclaim.
In 2016 Carolyn left Monte Nido and created The Carolyn Costin Institute. The Institute offers Continuing Education for clinicians, Eating Disorder Coach Certification, Mentor Training, and Educational support for families of those with eating disorders.

In this episode Millie and Olivia chat to Georgia Houston.
Georgia is the Director and an Accredited Practising Dietitian at Her Matters.
As someone who struggled with an eating disorder in her late-teens, Georgia knows firsthand the important role health professionals play in recovery. That is why she became a dietitian; to help women re-establish a balanced relationship with food, an appreciation for their bodies and an understanding on how to fuel and nourish them.
In her work as a dietitian, she has seen how a multidisciplinary approach to healthcare can improve patient outcomes, while creating a fulfilling, synergistic environment for health professionals too - and so she founded Her Matters.
Her Matters is a collective of female allied health professionals who are passionate about creating a bold, supportive and inclusive space for women of all ages.
Outside of work, Georgia love's listening to music (which is why you’ll always hear the best tunes at Her Matters), as well as going to pilates with her mum and playing with her Bernedoodle, Charlie.
They discuss how Georgia’s lived experience informs her work, the importance of having a dietitian when you are in eating disorder recovery, navigating pregnancy after an eating disorder and what inspired her to start Her Matters.
