RIPEcast by Space Cowboys

Buckle up, friends! This week’s RIPEcast takes us back to an epic set from Breakfast of Champions x It’s A New Day 2023. We’re thrilled to share this live mix from legendary pioneer of bass n beats, Freestylers! This set absolutely mashed the dance floor with old school vibes and new school flavor. Huge thanks to Freestylers for not only sharing these massive tunes with the BoC party, but letting us bring it to you on the podcast as well.

En-fuckin-joy!!!

One this week’s RIPEcast we’ve got another thumpin set of bass n breaks. This one’s from Space Cowboy’s very own DJ Sol, recorded live on 1/1/23 at the Breakfast of Champions + It’s A New Day New Year’s Day Block Party in San Francisco. Here’s what Sol had to say about the party and the mix:

"It's nearly impossible to describe the energy and vibe when you walk into this event, but you are instantly transported into a space of amazing people, love and music from every direction. Hugs and high-fives all day long. After weeks of torrential rains the only day without rain amazingly enough was New Year's Day! The sun was shining and the weather was sweet, it made you want to move your dancin feet. Playing at High Noon on the Wild West Stage was a blast! I started the set off with some Tech-y House and worked into some Bass and Breaks, then finally tag teaming a portion of the next set with my homie Shizzla!

Gradtude and thanks to my Space Cowboy family plus love and respect to Dusty Rhino, Brass Tax, Green Gorilla Lounge, Heavy Petting Zoo and to the Great Northern / It’s A New Day family for another flawless event!

Enjoy and thanks for your support!

~Sol"

This week’s RIPEcast features a scorching live set from one of this year’s Breakfast of Champions x It’s A New Day guests—DJ producer and label owner at 83, Guau! Here’s some lovely sentiments Guau shared with us about the set and his experience:

“The more time I spend in San Francisco, the more I love this city. It has been an honor for me to be able to share the first dances of 2023 with the Space Cowboys team and for this reason I prepared a very special session, full of exclusive versions that I premiered at the BOC NYD 2023. Classics and unpublished songs mixed in 1 hour and a half of good vibe. Many thanks to J9 and the Space Cowboys crew for inviting me.”

“BOC 2023 absolutely went OFF! That stage was crowded with love, and I was so happy to be joined up there by my family and friends. Thank you SF. You sure know how to bring it on the dance floor. Playing this set for you was an immense pleasure. The energy was palpable, and I love the exchange that we engage in, bringing each other higher, and elevating the vibe to the stars!!

I was incredibly honored to open for my friend GUAU from Spain, and play many tunes that were crafted by friends of mine. I’m incredibly lucky to be able to do something that brings me SO MUCH JOY!!!

I hope you enjoy these selections and reliving the day or getting a taste if you couldn’t be there in person. Thank you so much for your support. Lots of love! j9”

Look, I'm going to miss playing my 2nd ever Breakfast of Champions New Year's Day party since the whole thing began back in the 1900s. I'm not mad about it—it's good to mix things up now and then, so while a bunch of my favorite humans are getting grinnin' & sweatin' with Space Cowboys n friends over at the block party in front of The Great Northern, I'll be skiin' & grinnin' in the snow.

Still, every year around this time my brain is hardwired to go into deep track discovery mode. Even tho I'm not playing a BoC set, I still had to scratch that itch, so... here's the result. Drum n Bass for Santa.

Happy Ho-Ho-Holidays, Frens!
