Hawthorn’s current Head of Football, Rob McCartney believes that our club is on the right track, and that we need to be patient and stay the course.
Speaking to Hawks Insiders ahead of our first practice match proper of the 2023 pre-season against Geelong, McCartney opened up to us on the wave of change that he has seen sweep through Bunjil Bagora in the past two years.
And while he admitted there is a road path ahead, his deep insight into how we have arrived at this place in 2023 and the pathway leading us to our next golden era should have everyone supporter excited.
He spoke to us in depth about:
* Culture, development, accountability, performance and leadership;
* Change on a mass scale and the difficulties faced when implementing such change;
* His role heading up the Football Department and the transition from Alastair Clarkson to Sam Mitchell;
* Strategic Planning and putting long-term strategies and processes in place;
* The inside word on how the Josh Weddle acquisition unfolded;
* The generational changing of the guard and list management decisions;
* DGB, James Worpel, Chad, and more in depth player discussion; and
* Managing players through the upcoming practice matches and 2023 expectations.
