Peal is an employment and labour lawyer and recently took up an in-house role as an Employee Relations Manager where she provides strategic and legal advice on dealing with various employee related matters within various business units at one of Africa’s largest banks.
Prior to taking up this exciting role, Peal joined Norton Rose Fulbright, South Africa as a candidate attorney in January 2016 at its Durban office where she acquired a wealth of experience in dispute resolution and litigation experience within the construction and maritime insurance sectors as well as some corporate-commercial sectors.
In March 2017, Peal was selected among her peers to serve a six-month secondment at Norton Rose Fulbright’s Dar es Salaam, Tanzania office where she worked on a number of project finance and banking transactions in and around the East African region. In October 2017, she joined the employment and labour team of the law firm where she was retained as an Associate based at the firm’s Sandton, Johannesburg office.
During her tenure as an Associate, Peal was involved in a number of forensic investigations relating to employee misconduct and formed part of a team of professionals that were involved in providing legal opinions on a number of individual as well as collective labour issues such as wage and strike negotiations and retrenchment processes across five African jurisdictions. She also got to work on some notable BBBEE transactions where she was providing strategic advice on various youth skills development programmes.
Peal holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and LLB degrees from the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg South Africa.
I love how Peal opens up to us about the challenges she faced when her mother fell ill and she was unable to give her 100% of her attention because her role at work was demanding. It is an important lesson which we often read or hear about but do not internalize: we have to prioritize living fully, no matter what. Tune in to hear more about Peal’s journey.
