Watcher Texas Ranger

S3 E9 Line of Fire

Listen Later

Buckle up for a dirty-cop conspiracy in Watcher Texas Ranger, where hosts James Hauser, Clint Busch, and Ryan Mattila rip into the roundhouse-kicking, justice-on-the-line world of Walker, Texas Ranger! We’re riffing scene-by-scene through the 90s action classic with quips sharper than a bullet. This week, we’re diving into Season 3, Episode 8, "Line of Fire," where a good cop gets murdered after discovering his colleagues are stealing drugs from the evidence room and selling them. Walker and Alex investigate the dirty cops, dodging bullets, bad writing, and a suspiciously high body count. Get ready for framing, shootouts, and a whole lot of “this episode sucked balls” energy!

  • Show: Walker, Texas Ranger

  • Episode Title: Line of Fire (Season 3, Episode 8)

  • Cast:

    • Chuck Norris as Cordell Walker

    • Clarence Gilyard Jr. as James "Jimmy" Trivette

    • Sheree J. Wilson as Alexandra "Alex" Cahill

    • Noble Willingham as C.D. Parker

A policeman named Arnett discovers other policemen like Rooks and Fargo are stealing drugs from the evidence room to sell them, replacing cocaine with sugar. Arnett calls Alex to set up a meeting with Walker in a parking garage, but a truck drives by and shoots Arnett dead. Walker and Alex investigate, finding clues like a cockroach on fake cocaine. Jesse, Arnett's partner, is involved but conflicted, talking to his redheaded wife about trouble with Fargo. Dirty cops try to kill Alex in court and later at a hospital, but Walker protects her. Mitch Cocaine, a drug dealer with a mansion, is connected, surrounded by dirty cops. Walker fights Mitch in a karate match but it's a foot chase. They find drugs on a boat at Rook's house, leading to arrests. The episode ends with C.D. giving Alex chili, and Trivette trying it as it cuts away.

      • The hosts joke about an open air strip club idea from a "topless bar" sign, misreading it as "tapas bar" with small plates.

      • They note nine kills but it felt like three, with quick takedowns and bad guys standing up after roundhouses.

      • Discussion of bribing lawyers as a business idea from the episode's plot.

      • Hosts mention the episode provided a genius business idea that could make money.

      • The writing sucked balls, with flat dialog and lack of punch.

      • Rated 7.5 on IMDb but hosts found it flat and okay at best.

      • C.D. draws his gun quickly on a woman at the door, disarming her.

      • Walker lets a roof ninja cut a hole in a hospital window before taking him out.

      • Chili makes it all better at the end, with Alex eating hot chili while Trivette's reaction cuts away.

Stream “Line of Fire” on Peacock, Hulu, or buy it on Fandango at Home (Vudu) for $1.99. For collectors, the Walker, Texas Ranger: The Complete Collection DVD set is available, though note the Season numbering variations.

Next week, we’re riffing on Walker, Texas Ranger "Payback." Car thieves are plaguing the city. They steal a specially adapted van used by a disabled boy. Walker is determined to find it for him. In the process, Walker kills one of the thieves, a young boy whom Walker knows from previously arresting him, but his family used their influence to get him out of the charges. Later, Walker learns that someone has placed a $1 million price on his head, and despite being told this, his main concern is getting the van back.
