Dr. Gino Yu has been in the field of digital entertainment for over 30 years, with the last 10 years focusing on research in consciousness (intersection of phenomenology and neurophysiology). He has his PhD in Electrical Engineering through the University of California at Berkeley and has established multiple multimedia initiatives around the world the Integrated Media Systems Center at USC, the Center for Enhanced Learning Technologies at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and the Multimedia Innovation Centre at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), a leading edge think tank and research centre on digital entertainment. He is currently an Associate Professor and Director of Digital Entertainment and Game Development in the School of Design at PolyU where he oversees M-lab.
Our conversation spanned everything from developmental psychology, to embodied somatic presence vs. cognition, to mythologies, art, and culture, to epistemology and how we know what we know. Extremely fascinating conversation!
