This is a short reflection on an insightful passage from Lev Shestov's book All Things Are Possible (part 2, ch. 3), in which he narrates an experiment about conditioning a pike not to pursue its prey fish. He draws a comparison between human beings, with their habits and expectations long established, and the pike, and suggest that we approach life boldly, even if it means we "bruise our noses".
