  • William James, Pragmatism Lecture 2 - Older Truths And New Opinions - Sadler's Lectures
This lecture discusses the 19th-20th century philosopher and psychologist, William James, and focuses his set of lectures, "Pragmatism: A New Name for Some Old Ways of Thinking", specifically on lecture 2, "What Pragmatism Means", and discusses how new opinions are entertained and then assimilated into the matrix of the older beliefs that we hold as true. Generally the new ideas or experiences are not accepted wholesale, but rather end up being adjusted to fit in with as many of the older truths as we can retain.

  • Aristotle - Giving and Getting What One Doesn't Want - Sadler's Shorts
This is a short reflection on an insightful passage from Aristotle's Nicomachean Ethics book 9 chapter 1, in which Aristotle discusses the sorts of tensions that arise within friendships and other relationships, having to do with what one party gives, promises, or provides to the other. Aristotle notes that giving someone something they don't want, in place of what they do desire, is often worse than not giving them anything at all.

  • Albert Camus - The Absurd Breaking Through Routine - Sadler's Shorts
This is a short reflection on an insightful passage from Albert Camus' book The Myth of Sisyphus, in which he narrates one way in which human beings occasionally become aware of the absurd, when the routines they unthinkingly follow break down and reveal the contingency and perhaps meaninglessness of what one does day in, day out

This is a short reflection on an insightful passage from the middle Platonist philosopher Plutarch's essay On Contentment. • Aristotle - Judgement, Maturity, And The Art Of Living - Sadler's Shorts
This is a short reflection on an insightful passage from Aristotle's Nicomachean Ethics book 1 chapter3, in which Aristotle is discussing what kinds of people have developed good judgement about matters, particularly those concerned with what he calls Political Science and Moral Science or Ethics, the discipline involved in living well. He references two distinct types or sources of immaturity that would make a person less able to study, understand, and apply ethics - immaturity of age and immaturity of character
