Cards won last night and they’re officially “in it.” They’re in a spot where they need to rebuild but the organization may not be able to truly do that. Which neighborhood best suits everyone on the show? Gaines and Jeff recap the ballparks they’ve been do and agree that Milwaukee is surprisingly good. Travis makes a surprise appearance and the guys talk about the right way to watch a movie. Gaines and Travis are appalled by Jeff’s proclivity for spoilers. The boy band guys from the 90s all came out pretty normal, all things considered. The guys all miss Nickelodeon shows and Gaines doesn’t remember Alex Mack. Travis gets a little in to anthem talk. 

It’s really really hot out and it weighs on everything. Cards were eliminated from divisional contention last night and it’s a slow march toward the wild card. The Cards are pretty rudderless and it’s underwhelming on every front. The Blues are in Columbus tonight but everyone is hurt. Gaines hit a parlay last night because Bruce Arians doesn’t trust his charts. Lots of sports culture talk, especially about the difference between NBA and other sports. The ball got rolling for Gaines to talk NBA and he’s all in on LeBron, who should have a statue in every single NBA city apparently. Is Michael Jordan the second best player of all time? Gaines says so. It’s hard to have an appreciation for how terrible Mike Keenan was if you weren’t really here when he was. Jeff and Mike Lee’s Space Bar throw down over Gretzky.

Chris is still out for meetings so that means we're basically New Jack City now. Matt Whitener returns. The Cardinals are done but not done, it's really annoying. A little conversation about the direction of the Saint Louis Cardinals. Jerry Jones did something last night, we aren't really sure. A debate about how good Quarterbacks are in the NFL. Gaines spews his NFL nonsense.

Heavy on the baseball to kick off the Wake Up Hour. The Cardinals drop a series to the Pirates and find themselves on the precipice. The Cubs can clinch over the next few days, and it’s weird how excited they are about it. The Cardinals didn’t have the rotation depth to handle the Leake trade and it’s hurting both the team and the prospects down the stretch. When Jeff gets left alone in the studio, the hockey talk gets hardcore. Hockey Bob calls in to talk Olympics and says Brendan Shanahan and Chris Pronger were Blues at the same time. The depth on the roster makes cuts hard. Travis is here and thinks the NHL cuts too politely to have Hard Knocks. Street croissants sound pretty great. Sabermetrics are things in all sports, including hockey. Don Cherry is problematic, but that’s OK. There’s NBA stuff going down, and Jeff has a story about soup and Chris Chelios.

Matt Whitener is in for Chris, Jeff is in for Gaines, and Travis wants to call Elias to see if this is the blackest morning show of all time. It’s an enchilada of nonsense morning, and we’re starting with the Cardinals. Travis wants to go back to the deadline to talk about not getting a pitcher. Matt understands wanting to hold solid but thinks they just wanted to roll with the pieces they had. Soledad O’Brien had a special with Ice-T last night. Travis and Matt love Soledad but Jeff remembers her most embarrassing moment. Bucky Barnes killed Biggie and Tupac. What’s the scrap value of the Arch? Could it pay for Bryce Harper? The Millennium Hotel is an eyesore that nobody wants. Whitener wants to know what the worst food to kiss somebody after is and he landed on a giant beer. Jeff is a candle guy and doesn’t know why there have to be men’s candles. Matt shopped for incense on eBay. Loan dispersement day is the best day of fake rich ever. All you can eat wings can save your life when you’re totally out of money in college. Barry Odom is a nice guy but it’s hard to sustain this program the way things are going. A passionate rant may not be enough to show that he’s able to truly handle coaching. Matt thinks Auburn is as tough as it gets, but momentum can be a real challenge. They may not have gotten over the Missouri State game. Travis wants Charlie Strong or Steve Sarkisian to coach Mizzou. Matt likes Tee Martin as a guy on the rise who has experience in the SEC. Cuonzo maybe can or can’t coach, but getting the talent in is the first step. Early 90s Cowboys were a good party.

Travis’s radio career is just a springboard to writing jingles. Terrell/Gaines is the next great American jingle duo. Whitener was all over Titanic and Avatar and Iron Man. It’s finally time for Trump talk. Jeff brought the news into the FNL booth on Friday and Travis didn’t believe it. LeBron brought the heat strong and managed to bring people together. He called the President a bum, and that was quite something. Trump knew this would be a wedge issue and a way to dive himself in. Travis thinks it was calculated. Jeff thinks he just went to what he knows. The NHL can try to avoid this but Jeff doesn’t think they can. The Penguins made a statement potentially in response to the Steelers staying in the locker room. Going or not going isn’t the question, but the timing of the statement is the big problem. Morning Melee is about funny country names and Fair or Foul is covering pro wrestling. The President is doing everything he can to hang onto his base and that’s where he has to run. Don’t be willfully stupid about the protests. Dez Bryant has chosen to stay quiet because of Jerry Jones and Matt doesn’t fault anyone who has to protect their livelihood. Jerry Jones probably wouldn’t be willing to actually cut his best players. Money talks. Baseball felt it this weekend as well with Bruce Maxwell choosing to kneel down. Chris Archer doesn’t feel like his teammates would support a protest. The Kaepernick protest quickly blew up beyond what people may have expected. Kaepernick is forcing things to be put in people’s faces and it makes them uncomfortable, which is why they rotate back to comfortable patriotism.
