Growing up in San Francisco, Sami Miro was known as the “weird vintage girl,” wearing recycled clothing she found in the back of American Rag to her 9-5 start up job. Today, she runs one of fashion’s coolest vintage brands and is a leader in the conversation on sustainability. In 2016, she took her passion for sourcing vintage clothing and turned it into a profession by founding Sami Miro Vintage, an eco-conscious clothing line specializing in sourcing and reconstructing one-of-a-kind vintage garments curated from around the world. Her clothing has been seen on the likes of Bella Hadid, Kylie Jenner, Kaia Gerber, Selena Gomez, Drake, The Weekend, Kim Kardashian, Kendall Jenner, and Hailey Baldwin, and she just released her first runway collection in collaboration with Heron Preston. In this episode, Sami talks about what it means to be an impact designer in 2020, the challenges we’re facing in fashion sustainability today, and how she built a business based off excelling in her difference.
