    • Comparison, The Killer of Joy
Show Notes: * Is comparison and envy the same?
      * Do I find myself wishing I had more/a different life? (money, popularity, fame, etc.)
      * Do I ignore the blessings God has bestowed on me? Am I grateful?
      * Do I trust where God has me right now?
      * Does social media contribute to me comparing myself to others?
      - [ ] Comparison is the thief of joy and the stretcher of truth.
      - [ ] Comparison keeps the focus on ourselves and we either feel prideful by thinking of ourselves as better than another, or we believe God is holding something out from us.
      - [ ] “The truth is God has given me everything I need for the plans he has set before me.”
      - [ ] One of the fastest ways of discouraging yourself and getting trapped by the sin of envy is when you compare yourself to others.
      - [ ] God has a specific plan for you and you won’t accomplish that plan by looking at others.
      - [ ] Hard question - are you entitled? You cannot be grateful for what you feel entitled to. Do we praise God IN our circumstances as opposed to BECAUSE OF our circumstances?
“Do your own work well, and then you will have something to be proud of. But don't compare yourself with others. We each must carry our own load.” Galatians‬ ‭6:4‬-5 CEVUK‬‬
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. Mark 12:30
“The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.”

    • How to Balance Truth & Love

Hey everyone we are back with our first episode of the new year and we can't wait to have some special guests on the show this season! On this episode Katie and Alexis give a little life update on what's been going on these past 5-6 weeks. Then they dive into biblical ways we as Christians should be sharing the truth in love with the people around us. The truth isn't always what we want to hear especially in today's society that tells us we must be tolerant of all ungodly behaviors and beliefs. This is going to be a great one, sit back and enjoy!

Love the show? Make sure to leave us a 5 star ⭐️ review! love you guys, happy New Year!

      Show Notes:

Truth & love cannot be isolated & compartmentalized. Jesus was the perfect example - he ate with sinners, reached out to the outcasts, but never watered down the truth.

“Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.” Ephesians 4:15

“If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love [for others growing out of God’s love for me], then I have become only a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal [just an annoying distraction].” 1 Corinthians 13:1

“Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body” Ephesians 4:22-25

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can make your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this world’s darkness, and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” Ephesians 6: 10-12

      “Love . . . rejoices with the truth” 1 Cor. 13:6

    • Waiting on God's Perfect Timing
      Show Notes:
God works outside of our realm of thinking in terms of time, time frames
Our human nature makes waiting challenging - we are always in a hurry and find it difficult to wait for anyone or anything
Patience is a virtue - do we exude this?
Difficulty with patience reveals our level of trust in God’s timing
God’s perspective is eternal - are we aligned with the eternal perspective?
Trials develop perseverance - even challenges work to our good (Romans 8:28)
      Hebrews 11: hall of faith
Many of these individuals never saw the promises fulfilled on this side of their lives
However, the promises still stand & have been seen to fruition to this day!
Ie. Abraham & his dependents as numerous as the stars
Our view of timing is influenced by our selfish desire for our needs & wants, not God’s eternal plan
God’s timing is better than our own thoughts on what timing “should be”
Psalm 145:17… “The Lord is righteous in all his ways and faithful in all he does.”
Give examples of timing working out better than we anticipate
      Jobs, business, relationships
Nothing can be added to God’s plans and nothing taken away
Ecclesiastes 3:11-14… He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil—this is the gift of God. I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that people will fear him.
Do we fear a lack of control?
Paul often talks about preaching by the spirit and not his own wisdom. God uses the foolish things to confound the wise.
His power and timing is made known by the perfect order of our universe
      Provers 3:5-6
Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding. In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths.
      A. Understand that my timing is not God’s timing. Do we trust God with our next step?
      B. Often God needs to develop us before we can handle the blessings He has for us.
      C. When our passion and desire align with God’s will, we are guaranteed God will bring it to fruition.
      D. Steward well what you already have.
      Ways to avoid mishandling blessing:
Be diligent and take care of what God currently has in front of you.
      Trust in Gods timing.
Appreciate where God has you right now.
Use your blessings to bless others.
      Be obedient to God’s word.

    • Politics & Division In The Church
Have you wondered what the Bible says about our involvement in politics? On this episode we dive into 5 main areas every Christian should consider when it comes to unity, politics, and the role of the church in the political realm. This is going to be a great one, enjoy!
      Show Notes:
Should Christians be involved with politics?
How should a Christian view politics?
Should our faith influence our political standing?
How can we deal with political division in the church?
Am I called to stand up or be a peacemaker?
Are all Christians called to be involved in politics?
Some Christians will be called others will not feel the same convictions. If you feel a conviction about something, pray & seek wise counsel. If you still have the same conviction, going against this is sin.
We do need to remember that who we elect will determine our religious freedoms.
A divided world needs a united church.
God calls us to search for peace and work to maintain it but also Christ had righteous anger in the temple.
Our political stance should be determined by our faith & what is clearly stated in the Bible.
Anything done from a place without faith is sin
"So whatever you believe about these things keep between yourself and God. Blessed is the man who does not condemn himself by what he approves. But the man who has doubts is condemned if he eats, because his eating is not from faith; and everything that does not come from faith is sin" (Romans 14:22-23)
Faith pleases God. In fact without faith it is impossible to please God ( Hebrews 11:6 ). So it makes since that everything we do should originate and proceed from faith, otherwise we are acting of our own accord. Faith is relying on and believing in God's provision instead of ourselves. Hebrews says that "faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see" ( Hebrews 11:1 ). So in the kingdom of God, faith is very important.
Paul says that "everything that does not come from faith is sin" ( Romans 14:22-23 ). This seems like a radical statement, but knowing how important faith is to the believer helps put into perspective everything he has been saying in this entire chapter. We are to exercise our personal convictions while keeping ourselves striving to know and obey his truth and will. When we operate in this way, we are operating in faith and God is pleased with faith. This gives us the freedom to live without reservation in His presence and he accepts this. In fact the Bible tells us that we are blessed by this liberty ( Romans 14:22 ).
We have to remember ultimate control and power is not in the hands of government but of God. (Daniel)
God uses politics to accomplish His will.
He knows that people will abuse their power but God can and will use it for His ultimate purpose.
Recognize that the government can not save us. But God does establish all authority.

    • False Names & New Identities

Ep. 30 Show Notes: "False Names & New Identities"

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”

      2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV

      1. What does it mean to be a new creation? Our lives are no longer worldly; they are now spiritual. Our “death” is of the old sin nature, it was nailed to the cross with Christ.
      2. What is the old self? refers to everything that is part of our old nature—natural pride, love of sin, reliance on works, and our former opinions, habits and passions. Everything out sin nature craves: LOVE OF SELF
      3. What ways do I hold onto my old self? There is a difference between continuing to sin and continuing to live in sin.
      4. How do I know if I have been made new? We go through a sanctification process (made holy) day by day, sinning less and hating it more each time we fail. Our new self hates the sin that still has a hold on us. The difference is that the new creation is no longer a slave to sin, as we formerly were. We are now freed from sin and it no longer has power over us. Romans 6:6-7
