The issue of salinization and salinity intrusion is one of the elevated global problems. Inundation of land by saline water for long periods leads to its percolation into the surrounding soils, resulting in altered soil chemistry. Dr. Sadiqul Awal of Melbourne Polytechnic School of Food, Plant and Animal Industries, has researched and showed an easy solution called 'Algal Technology' to get back land fertility due to the increase of salinity. The winners of the SBS National Languages Competition for 2019 have been announced in an event that celebrates language learning across Australia. The competition, run by SBS Radio, received nearly 3600 entries from language learners from across Australia in all age groups. Nehal Nafcy from Bangla-speaking community won in category D, 16-18 years.

এসবিএস ন্যাশনাল ল্যাঙ্গুয়েজেস কমপিটিশন ২০১৯-এর চূড়ান্ত ফলাফল ঘোষণা করা হয়েছে। ক্যাটাগরি ডি, ১৬-১৮ বছর বয়সীদের মাঝে বিজয়ী হয়েছেন বাংলাভাষী নেহাল নাফসী রুপাই। অস্ট্রেলিয়ায় বাংলাভাষী কমিউনিটির মধ্য থেকে এটাই প্রথম নয়। ২০১৬ সালে যখন প্রথম এসবিএস ন্যাশনাল ল্যাঙ্গুয়েজেস কমপিটিশন শুরু হয় সেবার মেলবোর্ন থেকে একজন বাংলাভাষী পুরস্কার পেয়েছিলেন। নেহাল নাফসি এবং তার বাবা সোহেলুর রহমান ও তার মা আফসানা বিলকিস কথা বলেছেন এসবিএস বাংলার সঙ্গে।

Bangali language and culture is cultivated by the Bangla speaking community everywhere in this world, beyond the geographical boundaries of Bangladesh and West Bengal. Bangla speaking community in Perth is also no exception. The Pathshala Bangla School in Perth was established by the Bangladesh Australia Association of Western Australia (BAAWA) in 2010 to ensure Bangla passes on to the next generations. Mrs Sharmistha Saha of Pathshala Bangla School in Perth speaks to SBS Bangla about the challenges and potential to run such initiative.

অস্ট্রেলিয়ার ভিক্টোরিয়ায় বসবাসরত খুলনা ইউনিভার্সিটি অফ ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিং অ্যান্ড টেকনোলজির (কুয়েট) প্রাক্তন শিক্ষার্থীরা আয়োজন করতে যাচ্ছেন একটি সাংস্কৃতিক অনুষ্ঠানের। আগামী ২৩ নভেম্বর এটি অনুষ্ঠিত হবে। কুয়েট অ্যালামনাই অ্যাসোসিয়েশন ভিক্টোরিয়ার প্রেসিডেন্ট শফিকুল ইসলাম কথা বলেছেন এসবিএস বাংলার সঙ্গে।

New research has found that addressing the mismatch between the skills of migrants and the jobs they currently work in, could boost the Australian economy by six billion dollars a year. The economic modelling by Curtin University found only 60 per cent of migrants from non-English speaking backgrounds are working in jobs for which they are well-matched.

অভিবাসীরা যেসব বিষয়ে দক্ষ সেসব ক্ষেত্রে তারা কাজ করছেন না। নতুন একটি গবেষণায় দেখা গেছে, তাদের বর্তমান কর্মক্ষেত্র এবং তাদের দক্ষতার মধ্যে যে অসঙ্গতি রয়েছে, তা নিয়ে কাজ করা হলে অস্ট্রেলিয়ার অর্থনীতি বছরে ছয় বিলিয়ন ডলার বৃদ্ধি পাবে। কার্টিন বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের এক গবেষণায় দেখা যায়, ইংরেজিভাষী নন এ রকম পটভূমির মাত্র ৬০ শতাংশ অভিবাসী তাদের দক্ষতার সঙ্গে সঙ্গতিপূর্ণ ক্ষেত্রে কাজ করছেন।
