More than 300 languages are spoken in homes across Australia, but that diversity is not being reflected in the classroom.

The situation in Afrin, Syria is deteriorating day by day after Turkey and its Syrian militia proxies occupied the city and its surroundings earlier this year under the name Operation Olive Branch.

Since the occupancy it has been a difficult year for farmers due to low market prices, high taxation, and instability.

As well as the difficult circumstances many civilians have been kidnapped and imprisoned by unknown groups. Due to the unstable situation, people’s properties’ and olives are being stolen.

Poet and intellectual Tengezar Marini has written hundreds of poems. Mr Marini tells us in this interview about the importance of writing in ones "mother tongue", especially for the Kurds. Mr Marini's older brother had a big influence on him to study and write poems.

Bahar Salehi is a candidate for local council elections in Tea Tree Gully of Adelaide. Originally from East Kurdistan (Iran) Ms Salehi has grown up in Adelaide, and worked in many Non-for-profit organisations. She has also been an active member of the Kurdish community organisation.
