On August 8, the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne began their tenth year celebrations with an opening press conference that took place in Melbourne CBD. Tamil actor Vijay Sethupathi has been bestowed the 'Best Actor' honour at the Festival for his role as Shilpa in Thiagarajan Kumararaja's Super Deluxe. This is an interview with him. In this interview Vijay Sethupathi has slammed the NDA government’s move to abrogate Article 370 without involving the views of the Kashmiris.

Indian constitution - article 370 allowed the state a certain amount of autonomy - its own constitution, a separate flag and freedom to make laws. Foreign affairs, defence and communications remained the preserve of the central government. As a result, Jammu and Kashmir could make its own rules relating to permanent residency, ownership of property and fundamental rights. It could also bar Indians from outside the state from purchasing property or settling there. India's BJP-led government decided to strip the state of Jammu and Kashmir of autonomy after seven decades, declaring it for “development”. Would stripping of special status to Kashmiri help development as the Government of India claim?

A bill to decriminalise abortions in New South Wales has been passed in the lower house of the state parliament.

காஷ்மீர் மறுசீரமைப்பு மசோதா என்ன தாக்கங்களை ஏற்படுத்தும் என்று பெரிய கேள்வி தற்போது எழுந்துள்ளது. காஷ்மீர் விவகாரத்தில் பாஜக அரசின் முடிவு நல்லதா, கெட்டதா என்பதை வரலாறு முடிவு செய்யும் என உள்துறை அமைச்சர் அமீத் ஷா நம்பிக்கை தெரிவித்தாலும், ஜம்மு-காஷ்மீரையும் லடாக்கையும் பிரித்து விட்டது மத்திய அரசு என்று கண்டங்களை தெரிவித்து வருகின்றனர் காஷ்மீரின் அரசியல் கட்சி தலைவர்கள்.
