Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull says he worries that burqas are used to oppress women but he will not pursue a ban of full-face veils. His remarks come despite a poll suggesting more than half of Australians would support the move. Mr Turnbull has joined senior MPs from all sides in cautioning against One Nation leader Pauline Hanson's push to ban the burqa.

Прем'єр-міністр Австралії Малколм Тернбулл вважає, що паранджа (бурка) залишається знаряддям пригноблення жінок, проте він не домагатиметься заборони повного приховання особи. Його слова суперечать думкам австралійців за результатом опитування громадськості, згідно з яким більше половини австралійців підтримали б таку міру, тобто заборону. Пан Тернбулл приєднався до тих членів парламенту з   різних партій, які застерігають проти недоречної кампанії лідера Партії «Єдина нація» Полін Генсон за заборону паранджі (синонім - бурка).

On Friday, September 1, the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement entered into full force and effect, as foreseen by the respective statement earlier released by the EU.The document comprises of two parts; the economic part foresees implementation of the free trade area, which already works since January 2017. More than 3 years ago millions of Ukrainians came out to the squares requiring the government to sign this Agreement. Millions of Ukrainians defended their choice, Petro Poroshenko emphasized."The Association Agreement, including its Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA), is the main tool for bringing Ukraine and the EU closer together: it promotes deeper political ties and stronger economic links, as well as respect for common European values," the European External Action Service (EEAS) said in a statement.

The United States' ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, has told the U-N Security Council that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is "begging for war". Ms Haley has urged the security council to impose "the strongest possible measures" on North Korea over its sixth and largest nuclear test, saying "enough is enough". Haley said the incremental sanctions approach of the 15-member council to North Korea since 2006 has not worked.  -

The President of Ukraine held a phone conversation with the leaders of the Normandy format - the President of France, the Federal Chancellor of Germany, and the President of Russia.German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron have called for Russia and Ukraine to step up their efforts to implement a fragile cease-fire agreement in eastern Ukraine. The conflict between Ukrainian forces and Russia-backed separatists has claimed more than 10,000 lives since it erupted in 2014. A cease-fire agreement signed in February 2015 in the Belarusian capital, Minsk, has failed to end the violence, which has recently flared up. germany and France have tried to convince both sides to implement the Minsk deal, but with little success so far. Merkel and Macron said on August 28 that they were concerned the security situation in eastern Ukraine had not significantly improved since they held a four-way telephone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Ukrainian counterpart Petro Poroshenko on August 22. "We urge President Putin and President Poroshenko to fully respect their commitments, to support the cease-fire in a public and clear manner, and to ensure that appropriate instructions have been sent to the military and local forces," they said in a joint statement issued by the chancellery in Berlin.They said the cease-fire agreement was still violated too often, including with the use of heavy weapons.Based on reporting by Radio Svoboda, Reuters and AP
