This week we chat with Addison Heimann! He's the writer/director behind the queer horror film Hypochondriac, which is currently in theaters and will be on VOD on August 5th. We chat about his childhood watching horror TV shows and how he finally got into horror movies, as well as his relationship to the genre growing up. Then we talk about mental health and breakdowns and how Hypochondriac pulls from very real and very personal situations.

Then we dig into a classic, Scream 2. We discuss when we all first saw it, why it was so terrifying for Addison growing up and why it has resonated so much. We dig into the operatic nature of the film, the way it's one of our favorites but requires the first one, the deaths, the tragedy, Derek's singing, the over-the-top theater department, the set pieces...so much.

This week we're joined by writer/director Andrew Traucki! He's an Australian filmmaker who made The Reef, Black Water and Black Water: Abyss as well as the found footage film The Jungle. His latest film, the standalone sequel The Reef: Stalked is out Friday in theaters and streaming on Shudder. His Scarred for Life moment was from the film Deliverance (1972), a film that established the "hillbilly horror" subgenre and has given a lasting legacy of tourism and filmmaking in Georgia as well as crafting a visual and audio cues surrounding the rural horror subgenre. We talk about The Scene, the banjos, eco-horror and the 70s idea of "masculinity in crisis"...all of which are sadly still pertinent today.

This week we chat with Thomas Burke! He's a writer for Found Footage Critic and a filmmaker who's latest film is the found footage kaiju film The Barbados Project. We chat about his horror history, how he got interested in found footage, some of his favorites that are easy or difficult to find, a number of Asian found footage films and his latest project, a kaiju found footage film from Barbados.

Then we dig into the horrors of Edward Scissorhands. Thomas discusses seeing the film way too early. Mary Beth talks about being destroyed from this movie. And Terry talks about the way in which the TV spots didn't live up to how his parents described it. Also, all that leather? We talk about the feelings of otherness, how Edward can be a stand-in for a variety of individuals who feel ostracized from society and a whole lot more.

This week we chat with Dr. Heather Petrocelli, who, in 2019, put out a survey for the LGBTQIA+ community and their thoughts on horror. With the thousands of responses, she turned the survey into her dissertation and is now in the process of turning that into a book called Queer for Fear: Horror Film and the Queer Spectator. She is a wealth of knowledge on queer horror and queer spectatorship and brought a whole lot to this discussion. After digging into her horror roots with a one-two punch of horror and queer cinema, we explore her journey from a child to adult and her relationship with horror. Then we discuss her upcoming book, the massive survey and a few things she learned from the thousands of responses.

Then we turn our attention to Silkwood (1983), the Meryl Streep, Cher and Kurt Russell-starring biopic of Karen Silkwood who worked at a plutonium plant where she was contaminated, psychologically tortured and possibly murdered. We discuss unions, seeing ourselves in cinema, rural poor, capitalism, the Silkwood shower and so much more in this incredible discussion. We could have chatted for hours more.

We talk about the historical context for the film, the use of real life situations like the freeway and the streetcar scandal as a framing device, and the way the film interrogates racism and self-hatred.
