Welcome to the Scottish Watches Podcast episode 692! Starting with Block RG’s €375,000 Radical Stealth Tourbillon—an angular, sci-fi creation with a massive skeletonized movement and stealth bomber inspiration. We explore Piaget’s revival of the Black Tie with a green meteorite dial and nods to Andy Warhol, then plunge into space with the CIGA Design x Label Noir Blue Planet II “Black Star,” featuring a Vantablack-style dial and titanium case for under $2K. Seiko enters the scene with its Speedtimer Solar Chronograph in Edo Purple for the 2025 Tokyo World Athletics Championship. Mido’s latest Multifort TV Big Date channels 1970s swagger with punchy blue and orange accents, and Casio’s G-Shock gets a superhero twist with Fantastic Four-inspired designs. We also unpack Bezel Authentication report, revealing that over a quarter of the Rolexes they inspect are fakes.

Scottish Watches Podcast #687: The Luck of The Irish – Johnny Talks Irish Watch Shows, Heavy Metal and The IndependentsPoem by Mike: International Festival of Time 2025
In May ’25 in Waterford (Ireland’s oldest city),
The crème de la crème of independent horology.
The imposing Medieval Museum is where they’re going to be,
For the International Festival of Time – edition three,
Don’t be daunted by the line-up, it’s an intimate affair,
With room and time to talk and look at all the wonders there.
Get a timepiece on your wrist, a photo, and technical data,
Then hear the origin story straight from the originator.
You will marvel at the dials: none, enamelled, or decorated,
At the innovative complications that someone created,
The engraving, finishing and clever materials used,
The attention to fine detail, with no shortcomings excused.
Thanks to Johnny McElherron, in whose mind this was conceived.
It’s an event that needs to be experienced to be believed.
You’ll be sorry if you miss it and let lesser things prevail.
Mingle with the Masters and you might just hold your grail.
International Festival of Time 2025 – An Attendee’s Perspective
As I sat in my hotel room swiping through a batch of poorly lit and slightly out of focus photos, I contemplated the last two days spent at the @FestivalofTime, with a slight air of disbelief at my experience and a smile that I know will take some time to fade. The event, conceived and organised by @JohnnyMcElherron, is in its third year and is held in Waterford, Ireland.
The venue, open to enthusiasts in the know and the general public for a nominal fee (which also includes entry to the must-visit Museum of Time close by), is a well-lit basement room in the Medieval Museum. Upon entering, there are no big established, well-known brands. Instead, fifteen independent watchmakers or brands are spread around the room. This a group you would have to travel far and wide to see otherwise, especially as some don’t normally attend the main shows. There is no order or hierarchy. No-one has a bigger or better placed pitch. No competition, just camaraderie and respect for peers. Legends of the horological world are intermixed with newer entrants.
Watches are displayed in locked glass vitrines, ripe for a photo and you might initially think that is where they would stay, especially considering the value of some. Display the slightest interest however, and you are quickly engaged in conversation with a watchmaker or CEO. This is high-end, but not stuck-up. A watch is soon out on the table for a closer look, an explanation and an insight into its back-story. Questions are eagerly accepted and passionately answered. Want a wrist shot of every watch? No problem, as you will have their undivided attention and if you are already a fan and a grail watch is involved, this is a money-can’t-buy experience.
This year’s event also included a technical talk about complications and panel discussion held in the beautiful adjacent cathedral. It’s intimate and feels very exclusive, given the range and class of exhibitors and the atmosphere, though easy-going, buzzes with both the excitement of the attendees and the enthusiasm of those exhibiting. It’s unique and a year will be a long time in anticipation of a fourth edition. Johnny, you should feel very proud of yourself.
