“When you know what you want, and you want it bad enough, you'll find a way to get it.” One of Jim Rohn’s most famous quotes.
For those that don’t know Jim Rohn was arguably one of the most influential authors and motivational speakers of his generation. He died in 2009. Jim was an absolute quote factory. Perhaps most famously known for advising that “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” I can’t count the number of times guests on my Screw the Naysayers podcast have shared this quote.
Jim also said “If you don’t like how things are, change it. You are not a tree”. And then there is one of my favorites, “If you are not willing to risk the unusual, you will have to settle for the ordinary.”
The man was a genius and most likely forgot more things about entrepreneurship and mindset than I will ever know. That’s why I’ve always hesitated to say much when people say, “If you want it bad enough you’ll find a way.” Who am I to question the wisdom of a man like Jim Rohn?
But I do feel as if the quote is open to misinterpretation. Listen in to learn why.
Why do so many ent insist on spending so much time and money on systems that are designed to scale a business?
Examples of things early stage entrepreneurs routinely drop their money on:
How to create lead magnets
How to build your email list
How to use FB ads to land new customers
How to create an online course
How to run webinars that convert
How to grow my Social Media following in 3 easy steps
How to get booked on Podcasts
How to run a mastermind
How to become a public speaker
Tim explains that if you’re relying on these systems to get you your first 5-10 customers, you’re going to be very disappointed. Listen in as he dished out some great entrepreneurial advice.

There will never be a perfect time to take that leap and to live your dream. I get it. I’ve been there. But now with over 30 plus entrepreneurial years behind me and four successful businesses, I say you have to take that jump.
Making change happen and creating the business and life you dream of takes courage. But ask yourself this. What will your life be like if you don’t do it? Will anything change in your life? Is this way you want to live the rest of your life?
Late in life no one ever regrets the chances they took to get the things they want. The world is full of people who regret giving up on their dream without even trying.
There are only two reasons why people settle. Lack of clarity or fear of failure. In todays mini-episode I share five things for you to consider if you know the life you want but something is holding you back.

Tim comes clean that sometimes he puts too much pressure on himself to perform, shares how it impacted him this week, and reminds us that sometimes we ask too much of ourselves.
In this mini episode Tim shares a couple of stories that illustrate what happens to us when our heart wants something and our brain says we can't have it. It's not pretty. He also drops great tips on what to do if this ever happens to you.
Coach Jim Johnson developed winning high-school basketball teams for 30 years, taking over three losing varsity programs and turning them into winners in short periods of time. Of his 428 career victories, one in particular will surely never be duplicated.
On Feb. 15, 2006, Coach Johnson made the kindhearted gesture of inserting his autistic manager, Jason McElwain, now known to the world as J-Mac into Greece Athena High School’s final home game, which the Trojans won 79-43. J-Mac scored 20 points in just over four minutes, including six three-point baskets, to become an instant national celebrity. Coach Johnson, also, was featured in major news outlets around the country.
To make the Hollywood ending complete, Greece Athena captured the first Section V title of Coach Johnson’s career a few weeks later.
Now retired from Coaching, Jim is the author of A Coach and A Miracle, a public speaker and a Organizational Culture, Employee Engagement and Leadership Expert. In this episode Jim:
Give this one a listen folks. It’s a feel good story loaded with practical advice.

Rich Cardona is a retired Marine Corps aviator who tried the traditional job route after serving his country. While successful, Rich was unfulfilled and knew he was destined for something more. He decided to leave the workforce and have recorded conversations with C-Suite executives and influencers. This gave him the ability to satisfy his desire of continuously enhancing his leadership skills while also sharing these lessons with others. He soon realized that there were many other passionate leaders out in the world who knew a social media video strategy was needed, but did not have the bandwidth to develop and execute on it. Seeing a gap in the market he started Rich Cardona Media.
I spoke to Rich in March of 2019 (Episode 107) when he was in the early days of his entrepreneurial journey. Almost a year later Rich and his company are killing it.
