During today's conversation on Scripture & Story, we are continuing in our Story of Redemption Series.
Remember, the Bible is one story – one grand narrative. It is God's story of redemption.
In today's episode, we pick up the narrative in the book of Judges. God's people have settled in the Promised Land, but they never full conquered it. The generations that followed turned to idolatry, something God had repeatedly warned them not to do. They fell into a cycle of sin and defeat, and then God in His mercy, sent judges to deliver them.
God raised up a prophet to lead the people, but they wanted a king like all the other nations. Although tall and handsome, looking very much the part of a king, Saul failed to lead the Israelites well. So God chose a man after His heart, David, to shepherd the people. David's son Solomon followed him on the throne, and eventually his heart turned away from God. The result? A divided kingdom.
It's a story of failure after failure as God's people prefer the ways of the world over following God. But thankfully the story doesn't end here, however, be warned, it's going to get worse before it gets better.

During today's conversation on Scripture & Story, we are continuing in our Story of Redemption Series.
The Bible is one story – one grand narrative. It is God's story of redemption.
In today's episode, we pick up the narrative in Exodus, where God miraculously delivered His people from bondage. This is perhaps the most important story in the Old Testament, so you don't want to miss its implications for us as believers today. Then we follow the Israelites through the wilderness as the receive God's commands, establish the priesthood, and finally come to the edge of the good land God promised them.
But sadly, those same people who had seen miracle after miracle and had been led by the very presence of God, failed to trust that God could give them victory over their enemies in the Promised Land. So God turned them back to the wildness where they wandered until that unbelieving generation died.
But we won't end this episode there. Forty years later a new generation stood at the edge of the Jordan River overlooking the Promised Land, and under Joshua's good leadership, dared to believe God. God gave them a second chance, and He redeemed their story. And He'll redeem yours, sweet friend.

During today's conversation on Scripture & Story, we are launching into our Story of Redemption Series.
Did you know the Bible is ONE story?
Yes, the Bible is one grand narrative; it tells one story. The story of redemption spans from Genesis to Revelation, featuring our great God and His plan for His creation.
In this series we will view the unfolding drama of Scripture, and we will meet people that God used for His purposes, places that were sacred, and events that shaped the narrative. Nothing is by accident. Every bit of Scripture is God-breathed, purposefully pointing us to the Master Storyteller and Redeemer of our souls.
During this episode we will explore God's good creation, humanity's rebellion, the global flood and we will meet a man named Abraham, who is a key player in the story of redemption.

Happy New Year! During today's conversation on Scripture & Story, we are going to talk about important questions to ask at the start of a new year … 10 of them to be exact.
I LOVE the freshness of a new year, with the weeks and months spread before us like a blank slate, brimming with possibility. Curiosity bubbles within me and I try to imagine what amazing things God has in store for me in the coming year.
Now, I am also realistic enough to know that it won't all be lollipops and roses. The path of life always ascends mountaintops and descends into valleys, with surprising hairpin turns along the way.
Whatever may come in 2023 for you and I, we can know that our good God sits on the throne of the universe and nothing escapes His notice. He is also always so near we can reach out and touch Him. He is with us, no matter what comes.
So in order to prepare our hearts for the coming year let's be courageous enough to ask and answer these 10 questions for the start of a new year. As you sit with the Lord with these questions, allow the Holy Spirit to guide you in your responses.
Let's start 2023 in the best way possible - seeking God.

During today's conversation on Scripture & Story, we are going to talk about good news – the kind that brings great joy.
Christmas is only a few short days away - the season of peace and joy, light and life. But so often our experience is far less than joyful. We place our hope in earthly things and hold to unrealistic expectations, and our joy dwindles.
But what if you and I understood biblical joy? What if we were filled with authentic Holy Spirit joy? The kind of joy that rises above our circumstances and places our hope firmly in a good and sovereign God. The kind of joy that looks forward to a day when we will experience pleasures forevermore at His right hand? The kind of joy that lasts - a forever joy.
The good news of the birth of the Messiah brings this kind of joy. And as we look forward to the second coming of our Great King, our joy multiples. This is the kind of joy that is rightfully ours. And we will settle for nothing less.

During today's conversation on Scripture & Story, we are going to explore the idea of an eternal throne in Scripture. We are in the middle of our Advent series. Advent is a Latin word that means "coming."
Advent is a time of expectant waiting. It is the season of anticipation leading up to the arrival of Christ.
There are two advents in Scripture - the first advent was the incarnation of Christ when He got off His heavenly throne and came down, and the second advent refers to a future event of Christ's glorious return when He will establish His eternal kingdom and sit on an eternal throne.
We live between these two advents.
Jesus was born, lived, died, and rose again, and now we are eagerly awaiting His imminent return.
As we prepare our hearts for Christmas this year, let's be mindful of His second advent. Let's set our hope on the coming of Jesus. Any day now, He is going to break through these skies.

During today's conversation on Scripture & Story, we are starting our Advent series. The countdown to Christmas is on! I'd like to ask you a question: Do you struggle to find your Christmas spirit in December?
Between the shopping, wrapping, decking the halls and endless food prep, the holidays can be exhausting. And sometimes our expectations of Christmas cheer and merriment are dashed by cranky kids, bad weather, or burnt turkey.
But the real spirit of Christmas is not found in any of these trappings. The real spirit of Christmas is in the anticipation of the arrival of Christ, the Light of the world.
Advent is a time of waiting in expectation. We celebrate Christ's first advent at Christmas while we are eagerly awaiting His second advent, which could be any day now.
So lift your eyes and look to the heavens until the sky splits open and Christ comes to usher in His glorious kingdom - where He will be our Light forevermore.

During today's conversation on Scripture & Story, we are going to continue our journey through the greatest chapter in all of the Bible! By now, I hope you are as captivated by Romans 8 as I am. Isn't it amazing?! Packed with enough theological richness to occupy our minds and hearts until Jesus comes back, it is a practical guide to how you and I can walk with the Spirit of God.
Today we focus on Romans 8:26-30. Romans 8:28 is a well-known, well-loved verse: "And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose." What if we lived like we believe this is true? What if we had confidence that God is able to use EVERYTHING in our lives for our good and His glory? I bet that would change our perspective of our circumstances - especially those ones that feel anything but good. I'm so excited for our conversation today!
