    The University of the Faroe Islands, located in T.rshavn, the capital of the Faroe Islands, is a public university established in 1965, with a faculty and administrative staff of 150 and an enrollment of 1500 students. The purpose of the University of the Faroe Islands is to carry out research, facilitate
    learning and provide teaching at the highest level, as well as to effectively disseminate knowledge about scientific findings and methods.

    On March 2, 2018, representatives from the University of Malta, the University of Greenland, the University of Liechtenstein, the University of San Marino, the University of Gibraltar and the Universitat d’Andorra met in the Principality of Andorra to formalise the creation of the Network of Universities of Small Countries and Territories, NUSCT.
    In the words of NUSCT President and rector of the Universitat d’Andorra, Dr. Miquel Nicolau, “… the Network of Universities of Small Countries and Territories was born of a shared need to address issues that are specific to higher education institutions that operate in socio-political and economic contexts of small countries and territories, but that are marginally dealt with by existing international higher education associations”.
    The diversity and international nature of the Network and the combined strength of its members will be leveraged to tap into competitive funding sources for joint or collaborative research projects.
    The University of Montenegro, the University of the Faroe Islands, the University of Akureyri, the University of Nicosia and the Mediterranean University (Montenegro) have recently joined the network.

    Prof. Frank Bezzina is the Pro-Rector for International Development and Quality Assurance at the University of Malta. He teaches Management Science & Decision Analysis, Operations Research, Applied Business Statistics and Business Research Methods on FEMA's undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Frank's research focuses on investigating phenomena in the Organisational Sciences. He has published papers on risk management, corporate governance, HRM, environmental management and statistical/methodological misconceptions. The L-Università ta’ Malta (University of Malta) is the country’s leading tertiary institution, catering for some 11,500 students who follow undergraduate and postgraduate studies. The University carries out academic research and provides a vibrant higher education setting in the arts, sciences, IT technologies and the humanities as required for Malta’s economic, social and cultural development.

    Dr Sanja Pekovic has a Ph.D. in Economics from the University Paris-EST. She is Associate Professor at the University of Montenegro and Associate Researcher at the University Paris-Dauphine. Between 2006 and 2011, she was Researcher at the Center for Labor Studies (Centre d’Eudes de l’Emploi) and Lecturer at the University Paris-EST. In 2006, she obtained a Master’s degree from the Ecole Nationale Des Pontset Chaussées and University of Paris-EST Marne-la-Vallée. Her research interests are within the field of quality and environmental economics, economics of innovation, applied econometrics, and on this topic she has presented studies at national and international scientific congresses, which have been published in international journals.
    The Univerzitet Crne Gore (University of Montenegro) is the oldest and the largest higher education, scientific and art institution in Montenegro. Founded on April 2nd, 1974, in Podgorica, the University is comprised of 19 faculties and three scientific institutes, with more than 20,000 students distributed over a number of campuses throughout the country, with its main campus and headquarters being located in the capital city of Montenegro, Podgorica.

  • I gesti tra i suoni: le forme di Luciano Berio

    𝗜 𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶 𝘁𝗿𝗮 𝗶 𝘀𝘂𝗼𝗻𝗶: 𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗲 𝗱𝗶 𝗟𝘂𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗼 𝗕𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼
    Dopo la pausa estiva, ritornano le monografie in musica di Michele Selva in La Musica come Pratica dell’Impossibile, al centro del nuovo episodio il compositore italiano Luciano Berio.
    Tra i più importanti esponenti dell’avanguardia musicale europea nonché pioniere nel campo della musica elettronica, Berio è stato testimone durante la seconda metà del XX secolo di una profonda trasformazione del mondo musicale: “la musica è tutto ciò che si ascolta con l'intenzione di ascoltare musica, l'esperienza musicale si è liberata in mille ramificazioni, ognuna delle quali ha una propria direzione che deve venir compresa e scandagliata senza cedere al rischio di semplificazioni”, pensava il compositore.
    Dopo gli studi classici al conservatorio, nel 1954 ha fondato e diretto con Bruno Maderna (qui la puntata dedicata al Maestro veneziano: bit.ly/mcpdi-maderna) lo Studio di Fonologia Musicale presso gli studi della Rai di Milano, dove con Alfredo Lietti e Marino Zuccheri ha dato vita una fucina di sperimentazione e creatività unica nel panorama italiano e non solo. Queste modalità d’interazione tra strumenti acustici e suoni prodotti elettronicamente, lo portarono ad esplorare soluzioni inedite nel rapporto tra suono e parola.
    Berio ha fondato inoltre nel 1987 a Firenze Tempo Reale, centro di ricerca, produzione e didattica musicale di cui Usmaradio è partner dal 2017 (area podcast qui: bit.ly/usma_temporeale). L’intenzione di Berio era quella di investigare nell'ambito delle applicazioni delle nuove tecnologie al campo musicale.
    Un posto rilevante nella sua produzione è infine occupato dal teatro musicale, genere in cui trova piena espressione la drammaturgia implicita anche nelle composizioni non sceniche, soprattutto vocali: oltre alla collaborazione con Italo Calvino, il quale firmò i libretti per tre opere teatrali di Berio, fondamentale fu l’incontro con lo scrittore Edoardo Sanguineti, autore dei testi di diversi suoi lavori non solo di genere rappresentativo.
    Questi sono solo alcuni dei passaggi biografici della carriera di un compositore che ha saputo innovare e affermare il suo stile con un senso di concretezza fonica e con un attenzione particolare al mezzo sonoro.
