Gypsy Rose Blanchard was born as healthy baby but her mother's undiagnosed Munchausen by Proxy syndrome turned her life into a living hell for nearly 20 years until she was empowered by her online boyfriend, who claimed he was a 500 year old Vampire, hatched a plot to murder her mother.

SO THIS EPISODE, WELL IT HAS A BIT OF EVERYTHING, manipulation, misdiagnosis, murder and the twists and the turns that get stranger and stranger. It sounds like a movie or a work of fiction - and just when you think it’s over, the plot completely takes a left turn.

We left off last week with the murder of Gary Hinman. Bobby Beausoliea was the one said to have murdered Hinman and when he was arrested Charlie was not happy. Nervous in fact. Thought that bobby’s arrest may point the finger at the rest of the family, mostly himself. And Charlie had plans that didn’t include that. Still wanting to be a rockstar but likely confidence dwindling in that category after Terry mulches said "no" to him….

He was good at the power of suggestion and manipulation…he was good at targeting and finding people men and women that would be susceptible to it. He was good at the art of the con. And if he wasn’t going to be a rockstar in 1969 he was going to become famous for something else.

Helter Skelter, his family of lost souls, his wayward insane personality that he would ride straight through until the end. 

This is the story of the nights of August 8-10 1969, the murder that followed that, and death valley…the place they thought they were safe from all harm or punishment but the place that they would slip up, get caught, and stand trial for the murders that ended the summer of love. 

It was the summer of 1969 and just a few weeks before the infamous Manson murders of actress Sharon Tate and Leno Labianca; Manson ordered his follower Bobby Beausoleil to get drug money from their friend Gary Hinman.

Hinman was a local music teacher and dealt a little drugs on the side - what started as a shakedown for money turned into 3 days of torture and a murder that would propel the Manson Family past the point of no return and into the darkest nights of the Summer of '69

Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme was considered Charles Manson's right hand woman and the Spahn ranch mother hen. She tried to keep the Manson family together after the Tate–LaBianca murders which ultimately failed. Later, in an effort to prove her commitment to Manson, she attempted to assassinate President Gerald Ford in 1975.

Rachael dives deeper into her research on the LISK case interviewing a victim and known associate of one the suspects in Amanda Wienckowski case comparing stories and making a case to show he wasn't acting alone.

I remember being so shocked and saddened when this family’s story hit the news several years ago and it’s one that I’ve been hesitant to tell on this podcast because it is so graphic and unimaginable. What these kids (some of them adults) went through at the hands of their parents for years … it turns my stomach and brings tears to my eyes.

But their perseverance and strength is so admirable that I wanted to shine an even brighter light on their resilience. Trigger warnings ahead — this episode will deal with child abuse, imprisonment, and horrific neglect. Please take care while listening.

On paper (and perhaps in person), David and Louise Turpin might seem like a normal married couple raising their children — all 13 of them, 3 boys and 10 girl, (which might draw some attention in and of itself). But with a little digging it is easy to find some oddities in their relationship timeline, like the fact that they got married when he was 23 and she was just 16-years-old — they had attended the same high school (though not at the same time). 

The story goes that David convinced school employees to sign her out of school … and they fled to Texas (possibly with the intent of eloping) before being caught by police and brought back home. Surprisingly, Louise’s preacher father gave his blessing on the union and allowed the two to wed in 1984.

Larry Nassar is a master at the art of deception, a man who used his brain to manipulate and con young girls, their parents, school boards, Olympic heads of the industry. He used his brain. He was smart, and he was bold often committing his life shattering crimes to people who considered him family, often right when the parents were in the room, or upstairs at their own home.

What Larry Nassar succeeded at doing for decades to cover up his crimes WOULD BE A STARK DIFFERENCE , TO WHAT Larry Nassar woke up to IN PRISON. A hard reality. WHAT made him a confident criminal for DECADES would be stripped from him once he was in prison with people a lot harder a lot tougher and perhaps with a lot LESS to lose THAN THE national medical coordinator for USA Gymnastics.
