Welcome to part two of our Scientology series. Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman were married, in love, and the parents of two children when the Church of Scientology identified Nicole as a threat. They wouldn’t rest until Tom - their crown jewel - was firmly in their grasp again.

Happy Saturday, friends!
This month we read ‘Malibu Rising’ by Taylor Jenkins Reid - the same author of our most popular book club pick yet, Daisy Jones and The Six. Malibu Rising follows four famous siblings as they throw an epic party to celebrate the end of summer in 1983. But over the course of twenty-four hours, their lives will change forever.
Today on the show, Mich, Zara, and Annabelle talk all things characters, that chaotic Riva party, and the recurring generational patterns of family ties.
Grab a copy of next month’s book club pick, Fault Lines, via our affiliate link here.
Got some thoughts on our August pick, Fault Lines by Emily Itami? We’re allllll ears (also, eyes, heads, bodies, etc etc) - join in the convo over on our Insta, @theshamelessbookclub. Or, if you’re after some variety, here’s a link to record a voice message via our website, too.

HEY BESTIES!
On today’s show: How many wedding dresses are too many dresses? Ange and Brad’s never-ending divorce hits another hurdle, the strangest kind-of-feud between Lisa Wilkinson and Khloe Kardashian, an investigation into whether J Lo and Ben Affleck are absolutely trolling us and then, finally, a conversation, in the wake of The Bachelor airing, about why we so rarely give reality stars the benefit for the doubt.
This week, Zara recommended Tom Daley’s interview with Desert Island Discs. Mich recommended, well, watching the Olympics. Ground breaking.
You can fill out our Shameless survey here! Thanks so much for your help in advance on this one - it really does help us make sure we are producing exactly the kind of content you want to hear.

Goooood morning all!
It’s the church-meet-cult that’s famous for indoctrinating celebrities - Elisabeth Moss, John Travolta, and most notably, Tom Cruise. So, what the hell do we know about Scientology? And how does it have such a star-studded list of devotees?
Head here to read that LA Times piece on Scientology founder L Ron Hubbard, and here for Laura Prepon’s interview with Celebrity Magazine.

Welcome to part two of our Elevatorgate series. When CCTV footage of Beyoncé, Solange and Jay Z in an elevator leaked to the media, the public had no idea what to make of it. Then, two years later, we were introduced to Becky with the good hair.

Hellooooo friends!
On today’s show: Why Kylie Jenner and Kim Kardashian’s cosmetic brands (as we know them) are disappearing, almost overnight. Plus, Love Island is back, but is it doing enough to protect its contestants' mental health? And then, the bizarre story of Princess Charlene, Monaco’s runaway bride.
This week, Zara recommended two books: Fault Lines by Emily Itami and Sorrow and Bliss by Meg Mason. Mich recommended listening to the ‘Pieces of Britney’ podcast by Pandora Sykes and BBC Radio 4, and reading ‘Britney Spears’s Conservatorship Nightmare’ in the New Yorker by Ronan Farrow and Jia Tolentino.

Good morning everyone!
Today, we’re heading back to 2014. When we watched Jay Z and Beyoncé walk the Met Gala in 2014, we saw a blissfully happy husband and wife. Only, when a black-and-white video leaked a week later, the public realised there had been a trick mirror all along.

Happy Saturday, book clubbers!
This month, we read the debut novel ‘New Animal’ by Australian author Ella Baxter. This book, set initially in the Northern Rivers of New South Wales, then later in suburban Tasmania, follows the life of Amelia Aurelia; an embalmer who spends her days in funeral homes, painting the faces of the dead, and nights sleeping with strangers via the dating apps on her phone. More than anything, though, this is a novel of grief - by chapter four Amelia’s beloved mother dies by falling down the stairs, and the reader joins the protagonist as she wades through the all-consuming pain of loss.
