  • Habits and Sacrifice
Episode #9: Welcome to the She Builds Show, I'm your host, Stefanie Olson. Recently, I've picked up two books, Atomic Habits, and The ONE Thing by Gary Keller, Atomic Habits is a very practical guide to help you keep the habits you want, and rid yourself of the habits you dislike. My biggest take away from this book so far is that changing your environment to create the habit you desire. He has a bunch of different options of how to help you gain the habits you want, but this one, the changing of your environment really stuck with me. We all have things we want to remove from our lives, but we struggle because we have formed these unconscious habit loops that once it starts, we just do the thing we said we wouldn't do. Sound familiar?

  • You Are A Rock Star
Episode #8: Welcome to the She Builds Show, I'm your host, Stefanie Olson. Today's title of this episode is, You Are A Rock Star. Something you might not know about me is I was born to be a rock star. There is an undeniable power living inside me, and as a kid growing up, I truly believed I was born to be a freaking rock star. I'm 100000% believe that in my soul, I could sell out a 500,000 seat venue. I would sell it out, I would kill it, I would play it. That type of confidence and power lives inside of me on the daily... The only problem is, I can't sing, but, the girl can dance. Dang it, I can't seem to sing to save for my life. I think God knew that I would just lay it and I would take over the world if I have the gift of singing, so he only gave me the ability to dance. But man, if there were rock stars that could lip sync, I will be famous, I would be one of them. I would be running concert tours everywhere, and it would be amazing, that is the fire that lives inside of me. Are you a rock star too?

The biggest feedback I can give you about self-care is, you just can't take my routine and insert it into your life, you're different from me, you have your own set of unique strengths and weaknesses, and so do I. But hopefully you can take these 9 self care tips and mold them to fit you and your life.

  • Building Confidence and Respect
Episode #6: Welcome to the She Builds Show, I'm your host, Stefanie Olson. Today, I want to talk about what it's like to be a woman in a male-dominated industry, it's my life pretty much every day. But even from childhood, I always fit in with the guys and had a hard time fitting in with the girls, it never came easy to me to just have girlfriends. I'm pretty confident in my abilities and as a young child, this can make for some pretty catty relationships, so I preferred hanging out with the boys over investing in female relationships. The skill of being a good friend to a woman in my life has had to come through my maturity, and I highly value these relationships and know how important they are to me now, but when it didn't come easy as a kid, it was really difficult, so being in an industry where it's mainly male-dominated, for me, I kind of feel right at home. But, I also know that some women, for them, it can be really intimidating. My dream is for the construction industry to not feel that way, for women to be able to come in willingly and get welcomed with open arms. I'm hoping to be the doorway for women to come through and feel comfortable, but I see the answer to maybe some of this problem, the men in the industry need to really combine forces with the women, we need to be on the same team, we need to really have them encourage, teach and hire women who want to learn and just make it something that's normal to see men and women on a job site... That would be my dream.

  • Bodies - Do You Like Yours?
Episode #5: Welcome to the She Builds Show, I'm your host, Stefanie Olson. I hope you're having an amazing day. On today's episode, I'm going a little deeper. I'm going to chat with you about something most of us may not want to talk about. But it's on my heart, and when I started this podcast, I want it to be real and authentic, and I wanted to cover everything that a woman builds. When I think about She Builds in the complexity of who I am as a woman and the things that make up my life and all the things that I'm actually building, there's a lot to cover; family relationships, business, children, health. I think a huge component I want to touch on is our bodies. I know I said it. I'm sorry, but it's the thing that carries us around every day, that we as women, probably struggled the most with. If I would've had more time in forethought in planning this episode, I would've wanted to blast a text to every woman I knew and ask her. What do you say to yourself in your mind about your body? I would have asked them now to be real, don't sugar coat it. What do you say to yourself on a daily and hourly basis about your body?

  • Moms Balancing Act - Life is Messy
Episode #4: Welcome to the She Builds Show, I'm your host, Stefanie Olson. Today, I want to talk about being a mom, what it's like to balance life with working and how it's just messy. My biggest problem is that honestly, I'm too good at too many things. I'm just extremely competent at most things you asked me to do aside from creating your website, I'm pretty capable. And honestly, this can be one of my biggest weaknesses. I let what I'm competent at and what I'm excellent at overtake my genius. We're all good at certain things. We're all great or excellent and other things. And then there's our genius. What nobody else can do. There are four words that are the entrepreneur's ultimate downfall. I'll do it myself. That's my downfall. This is what keeps me from being able to balance life. These four words, I'll do it myself.

  • How Are You Wired?
Episode #3: Welcome to the She Builds Show, I'm your host, Stefanie Olson. Today, I want to dive a little deeper into what keeps me grounded, what helps me to stay the path, stay balanced, stay in the right mindset recently. In my office I had a people map evaluation done on our entire team. If you don't know what people map is, it's an assessment created by a research psychologist, Michael Lillibridge. It was designed to help people learn more about themselves and better understand others. There's four types of people he says, and the goal is to try to improve communication between all the types. So it was something I really wanted to know about each person in my organization. It measures your natural preferences, the way you're hard wired. You might compare it to someone being either right-handed or left-handed. We don't really decide if we're right-handed or left-handed. We just are. So this test measures, what are you, what are you hiring?

  • Are You Caught in the Rat Race?
Episode #2: Welcome to the She Builds Show, I'm your host, Stefanie Olson. Today, I want to talk about business and entrepreneurship and where that foundation was laid for me. Why did I choose creating my own business and the hard life of an entrepreneur over a cushy day job, a nine to five? I went to school to be a teacher, went all through college, working at all these nasty restaurants. And I had a teaching job for an entire miserable year after I graduated with my credential. So I did work for the man from about age 14 to 23. But when I look back, I don't think I ever really chose entrepreneurship. There was never a deciding moment. I feel like it just kind of chose me. My father ran his own business, my whole life. So to me, working for yourself was a normal thing in my upbringing. My dad read every investing book you could ever think of and literally made my brother and I play the Rich Dad board game called how to get out of the rat race, which is a game teaching you how to generate cashflow through the yard of investing in real estate, stocks and companies. So the idea that success means that you just simply work until you die or until an employer or government program affords you a standard of living that enables you to make ends meet without further paid work. That wasn't really the status quo I was taught to achieve. I was taught to swim against the current to create my own path.

  • My Story, My Life
Episode #1: Welcome to the She Builds Show, I'm your host, Stefanie Olson. I'm excited to share my very first podcast and so grateful you decided to check this out! My goal today is to give you a little insight about me, my history and how I got here, as well as give you an idea of what I hope you will gain from listening. Here's to She Builds baby. First things first, I'm a general contractor. Crazy, right? A woman contractor. Yep. How in the heck did I get here? Well, it probably started when I was a kid, and I chose playing in the dirt over dresses every time, or most of the time I was in the dirt in the dress that my mother forced me to wear.
I created the She Builds podcast, because I want to help you. I want to encourage you. I want you to dig deep in your soul and speak out loud the things you have been dreaming about, because if I can be a woman contractor in a male-dominated industry, then you can speak your dreams. What are you building?
