  • How To Be Less Overwhelmed As A Business Owner, with Gemma Overend

Season 2, Episode 18: Show Up and Be Heard

Today’s episode of the podcast is an interview with Gemma Overend, all about how to feel less overwhelmed in business!

Gemma and I share our top tips for being more organised and ways we have learned to better manage our time.

We also chat about the significance of setting boundaries and how to stand strong with them, and prioritising personal and family life alongside business.

BOSS THINGS YOU'LL LEARN IF YOU TUNE IN:

    1. What systems and tools we use to help with organisation and time management
    2. Examples of boundaries we have to help us feel less overwhelmed
    3. What helps us plan better and manage our workload

Gemma has been in business for over 12 years. She started her cake business when her children were 4 and 2. Within the first year both her and her husband left their jobs to run Gemma’s Cakes full time.

They’ve come through all the challenges of running a business including the pandemic Brexit and the cost of living crisis.

Since starting a business from zero, Gemma has encouraged many others into the world of business. In 2023 Gemma launched The Creative Business Club, an online membership for all small business owners to come together for community, support and encouragement.

Oftentimes, women, but also men too, can feel like it’s impossible. Gemma teaches that anything is possible if you just make a start and go for it!

If you enjoyed this episode or found it useful, then I would really appreciate if you could take just a few minutes to give it a review on whatever platform you are listening on - because every one I get really does make me do a little squeal and a happy dance!

  • Why We Need More Women Owned Businesses, with Katie Cope

Season 2, Episode 16: Show Up and Be Heard

Today’s episode of the podcast is an interview with the fabulous Katie Cope, and we are talking all about why the world needs more women owned businesses.

Katie shares with us some fascinating facts about female founders, highlighting the positive contributions they make to both society and the world and giving us all a well needed reminder of just what a rockstar we are, for running a business!

We also chat about our views on the way that women are represented by the media and how we are trying to raise our children to create a more equal future.

BOSS THINGS YOU'LL LEARN IF YOU TUNE IN:

    1. Last year, just under 164,000 women started a business in the UK
    2. 63% of female founders perform better for venture capitalistic investment than our male counterparts
    3. If women were given equal opportunities, we could add £250 billion to the UK economy alone

In 2019 at 7 months pregnant Katie was made redundant from her full-time employment.

At that moment she had three options:

    1) Crawl into bed, pull the covers over her head and wait for everything to "blow over".

    2) Get another job (which, at the time, she was working in the events industry and felt that no one would hire someone who hadn't seen her feet for the last 3 months!)

    3) Her wild card option: start a business.

Five years later Katie is the founder of Keppel Leopard Creative - a branding agency located in greater Manchester working exclusively with female founders.

She loves helping her clients take the millions of ideas they have for their business, and help them create a focused and engaging brand that increases their income and visibility.

She is parent level 2, pet owner 1.5 and recently diagnosed with ADHD.
