Virtuose cantatrici, valenti suonatrici di cembalo, arpa, liuto, primedonne applaudite sui palcoscenici operistici, eccellenti compositrici. Sono queste le protagoniste di Virtuosissime, ciclo tutto incentrato e dedicato al mondo delle ‘virtuose di musica’ nel Seicento italiano. Il ciclo è anche il frutto di un progetto di ricerca in corso dedicato proprio a questo tema, finanziato dal Ministero dell’Università e della Ricerca (PRIN 2020) e condotto da un gruppo di storici della musica dell’Università di Firenze, L’Aquila, Bologna e Roma Tor Vergata.

Agli appassionati ascoltatori di Rete Toscana Classica saranno certamente noti i nomi della compositrice Francesca Caccini o della cantante Anna Renzi (prima interprete di Ottavia nell’Incoronazione di Poppea di Monteverdi), ma il fenomeno delle virtuose di canto e di strumento nell’Italia di questo periodo è assai più sfaccettato e degno di essere conosciuto meglio.

Con l’affermarsi dell’opera in musica, alcune cantanti trovano certamente una strada maestra per la propria affermazione professionale sui palcoscenici dei teatri pubblici, soprattutto veneziani. Tuttavia, la carriera di una virtuosa nel Seicento non si esaurisce nella figura della cantante d’opera. Altre musiciste, ad esempio, alternano la loro attività di compositrici o di virtuose di strumento a quella di insegnanti di musica, oppure rimangono a servizio di corti e di famiglie aristocratiche esibendosi in occasione di intrattenimenti musicali patrocinati dal principe o dal cardinale presso cui sono a servizio.

In otto puntate, ognuna delle quali focalizzata su una musicista e realizzata da musicologi specializzati nella musica del Seicento, esploreremo dunque l’universo delle ‘virtuose di musica’, cercando di mettere a fuoco aspetti ancora poco noti della loro vita e delle loro carriere, non solo per dare voce a personalità che vanno considerate a buon diritto come parte integrante di una storia della musica spesso raccontata solo ‘al maschile’, ma anche per farci comprendere meglio aspetti specifici legati alla formazione musicale e all’estetica vocale dell’epoca, alla costruzione di reti di relazioni in ambito musicale, alla circolazione del repertorio, soprattutto cantatistico. Attraverso le loro storie, la loro voce e la loro musica cercheremo di raccontare una parte importante della storia della musica del Seicento italiano.

Virtuose cantatrici, valenti suonatrici di cembalo, arpa, liuto, primedonne applaudite sui palcoscenici operistici, eccellenti compositrici. Sono queste le protagoniste di Virtuosissime, ciclo tutto incentrato e dedicato al mondo delle ‘virtuose di musica’ nel Seicento italiano. Il ciclo è anche il frutto di un progetto di ricerca in corso dedicato proprio a questo tema, finanziato dal Ministero dell’Università e della Ricerca (PRIN 2020) e condotto da un gruppo di storici della musica dell’Università di Firenze, L’Aquila, Bologna e Roma Tor Vergata. Agli appassionati ascoltatori di Rete Toscana Classica saranno certamente noti i nomi della compositrice Francesca Caccini o della cantante Anna Renzi (prima interprete di Ottavia nell’Incoronazione di Poppea di Monteverdi), ma il fenomeno delle virtuose di canto e di strumento nell’Italia di questo periodo è assai più sfaccettato e degno di essere conosciuto meglio. Con l’affermarsi dell’opera in musica, alcune cantanti trovano certamente una strada maestra per la propria affermazione professionale sui palcoscenici dei teatri pubblici, soprattutto veneziani. Tuttavia, la carriera di una virtuosa nel Seicento non si esaurisce nella figura della cantante d’opera. Altre musiciste, ad esempio, alternano la loro attività di compositrici o di virtuose di strumento a quella di insegnanti di musica, oppure rimangono a servizio di corti e di famiglie aristocratiche esibendosi in occasione di intrattenimenti musicali patrocinati dal principe o dal cardinale presso cui sono a servizio. In otto puntate, ognuna delle quali focalizzata su una musicista e realizzata da musicologi specializzati nella musica del Seicento, esploreremo dunque l’universo delle ‘virtuose di musica’, cercando di mettere a fuoco aspetti ancora poco noti della loro vita e delle loro carriere, non solo per dare voce a personalità che vanno considerate a buon diritto come parte integrante di una storia della musica spesso raccontata solo ‘al maschile’, ma anche per farci comprendere meglio aspetti specifici legati alla formazione musicale e all’estetica vocale dell’epoca, alla costruzione di reti di relazioni in ambito musicale, alla circolazione del repertorio, soprattutto cantatistico. Attraverso le loro storie, la loro voce e la loro musica cercheremo di raccontare una parte importante della storia della musica del Seicento italiano.
