Film History

The Blackfeet were hunters, travelling from place to place on foot. They used implements of stone, wood, or bone, wore clothing made of skins, and lived in tents covered by hides. Dogs, their only tame animals, were used as beasts of burden to carry small packs and drag light loads.  The stories here told come down to us from very ancient times. Grandfathers have told them to their grandchildren, and these again to their grandchildren, and so from mouth to mouth, through many generations, they have reached our time. (Sibella Denton)

Comment vit-on la prison, qu'on soit détenu ou maton? Qui décide des peines, et comment? Quelle est la vie à la sortie? Dans sa jeunesse, Karim est passé par la case prison. À l'aube de ses 40 ans, en 2019, il est à nouveau condamné à une peine de huit mois en maison d'arrêt. En dix ans, contrairement à lui, les choses ont bien changé. Les rares témoignages filtrent peu, nourrissant fantasmes et idées reçues sur l'enfermement et les conditions de détention, souvent instrumentalisées politiquement. Dans le rapport «La réinsertion des personnes détenues: l'affaire de tous et toutes» paru en 2019, Antoine Dulin, vice président du CESE, cite un sondage IFOP réalisé un an auparavant: 50% des personnes interrogées (contre 18% en 2000)&nbsp;«estiment que les personnes détenues sont trop bien traitées».&nbsp;Mais qu'en est-il vraiment? Comment vit-on la prison, qu'on soit détenu ou maton? Qui décide des peines, et comment? Quelle est la vie à la sortie? Dans sa jeunesse, Karim est passé par la case prison. À l'aube de ses 40 ans, en 2019, il est à nouveau condamné à une peine de huit mois en maison d'arrêt. En dix ans, contrairement à lui, les choses ont bien changé. Quelques jours après sa libération, Karim va raconter son vécu durant six épisodes dans lesquels il retrace les événements, du jour où il a dû préparer son sac pour partir en détention, à celui de sa sortie «sèche», c'est-à-dire sans rien dans les poches.Un récit accompagné des témoignages et analyses de professionnelles de la justice et de proche de détenus: Valentine, procureure, Sophie, surveillante pénitentiaire, Émilie, directrice de SPIP et Mathilde, sœur de Karim.
