Signs Of Company Layoffs / Organization Might Be In Trouble

No way to know with complete certainty that there are signs of trouble. However, there are some signs.

  1. Can't extend offers on open positions
  2. Interviewing is put on hold
  3. Open roles start closing / put on hold
  4. Find yourself with more spare time, over a decent amount of time
  5. Major projects put on hold
  6. HR incredibly busy
  7. Revenue is down
  8. Market is terrible (or falsely inflated)
  9. Banks are struggling
  10. Smaller layoffs have already been done
  11. Contractors not being extended
  12. Contractors getting cut before contract end date
  13. M&A conversations / news
  14. New top leaders
  15. Top level executives are jumping ship
  16. End of fiscal year
  17. Last minute all hands meetings
  18. Less involved / engaged in work you used to be ingrained in
  19. New tech / info is making your work less and less needed
  20. WARN notice posted
  21. Consultants / experts are hired
  22. Phrases like 'now no changes but who knows what will happen in a couple months'
  23. Decreased resources
  24. Less 'extras' and goodies
  25. Rumors
  26. Security in places they usually are not
  27. HR has a stack of boxes
  28. Leaders are going to last minute, long lasting 'planning' meetings
  29. Hiring comes to a hault in a particular location
  30. Company re-locates it's HQ
  31. Autonomy is reeled in
