  • Friends and Family Borrowing Money

On today's show, Reggie is talking about a common dilemma we all face at some point in our lives, friends and family borrowing money.

I have lent money to friends and family members and borrowed money from family members and friends, and neither situation worked out very well.

I have learned a lot from both experiences. Each person will have a different experience based on the person who requested the loan.  In my case, I learned that I’ll never loan money to friend or family member again, unless it's for a proven need. Often we loan money to friends and family members with no stipulations. We offer them a loan on good faith hoping they will pay us back. Unfortunately some people will take advantage of your kindness.

Loans to family and friends tend to be open-ended. No effort is made to  reach an agreement for a timeline for repayments, and interest are rarely included on loans to friends and family. This causes the person loaning the money to wonder when the money will be returned, especially if they are having financial issues. Which can lead to confrontation and resentment on both sides.

In this episode Reggie is sharing his personal experiences and some tips on loaning money to friends and family.

  • Dating Myths

Today on the Simply Straight Talk Podcast, Reggie is discussing the dating myths that many have heard or base our dating strategy on when going out.

Like urban legends, there are so many beliefs that seem credible when a person has experienced an emotional letdown but most of them only have a small amount of truth running through them, our world is full of dating myths. Often people recovering from a bad dating experience may feel like some negative dating tips make sense. In fact, the misinformation created from these myths keeps many people from successfully meeting someone or dating effectively. How many of these myths have you reviewed in your mind while on a date?

People who have been dating for a brief period of time are normally more open to the possibilities of the date being a good starting point for a great relationship. However, after a few years, a person may become burned out from dating. This may lead to a person creating or applying myths to any potential date in the future.  Not to mention, some people are strongly influenced by the experience of others regarding their own dating life.

As you listen to todays show, tell us what you think about these dating myths. Do you have any myths that you would add to this list?

  • Getting Relationships Right

We all desire to have a happy life with a committed, well matched partner; Isn’t that the reason we seek love? It’s also the reason we endure the painful cycle of broken relationships and which leads to emotional baggage along the way.

A successful romantic relationship full of love, connection, and ease may sound like a love story to you. You have most likely embraced conflict and betrayal in relationships as a part of the love search process. And you have most likely come to expect disappointment and deceit from relationships as part of your relationship cycle.

Yet you keep pursing love, in hopes of finding a life-long relationship, because deep down you know it’s possible, so it must be somehow possible for you. And you are right! Many of us have been in relationships that could have been successful but our actions in the beginning stages created problems that we were not able to correct as the relationship progressed.

Think about the times you met someone for the first date and although the date was going well, your mind would occasionally wonder to some uncomfortable area of your life. Maybe there were circumstances you were attempting on correcting in your life (debt, unemployment, medical) but you felt discussing the matter may cause the person to think differently about you. Often people will say just tell them and if they love you, they will do the right thing. This advice always sounds good when you’re not the person dealing the actual problem, not to mention possibly losing someone your seriously interested in getting know long-term.

In today’s show Reggie is discussing some of the mistakes we make in the initial stages of dating that eventually cause some relationships to fail. Join in on the conversation and don’t forget to leave a comment. We would love to hear your thoughts and share this with others as well.

  • Do Men Prefer Feminine or Masculine Women

On today's episode of the Simply Straight Talk show Reggie is discussing how men may feel regarding the increasing number of masculine women vs feminine women.

Men and women are working to understand the changes that are occurring in modern day relationships. Some women have begun to assume a more masculine status in relationships and the work environment. While some men have accepted this change in roles others may not feel comfortable about the change. Masculinity has commonly been associated with men as way of expressing strength and vigor, Feminine traits were always associated with women such as ladylike, pretty and womanly.

Over the years, some women have decided to take the more masculine approach and rejecting the feminine ways previously associated with women. This mindset may have developed for several reasons, for instance the feminist movement, men relinquishing their masculinity, or women feeling oppressed by the male society. I am sure there are numerous other reasons for this transition, but we must ask ourselves can two masculine people coexist in a relationship without constant conflict.

Today, some women are offended by the word feminine. To them this is an extreme insult and labeling them as weak and helpless. On the other hand, men don’t identify feminine as being weak when it comes to women. It’s a compliment and winning trait for women all over the world.

Listen to the show and discuss this topic and please share your thoughts with me.

  • Falsely Accused and Not My Baby

Over the past year, there has been a storm of sexual assault charges in America, especially in the entertainment industry. We also have cases of men paying hefty sum of child support for kids who is not theirs biologically. This also comes with the concern from many that due process is being ignored, and a person word is 100% facts. Sexual assaults do happen, but so do false accusations. Pointing out false accusations does not take away from supporting sexual assault survivors, because false accusations devalue actual incidents of actual sexual assaults.

I truly believe that all women should be heard, but not all women should be believed. Some women have been subjected to horrible acts of sexual violence, and the perpetrators should be punished and that is a fact. Women still should be encouraged to report their assaults and seek justice.

On the other hand, what are the effects of the individual accused? Does anyone consider the loses a person suffers from being falsely accused? Even when it comes to child support, numerous men have been forced to pay child support for children that does not belong to them. Even if it has been determined that he is not the father, he is not going to get back the money back. The child support laws need to be revamped to benefit both sides and ensure the child receives the proper care.

So, listen to the show and don’t forget to share your thoughts.

  • Celebrities I Want Support

There are some celebrities who people simply will not support for their own reasons. The reason for their discontent is not always based on jealousy as people may presume.

We all understand that celebrities are human just like us but there are times they can go too far in their comments or actions. Personally, I have few celebrities who I simply don't support. Now some of you may feel differently than I do about these individuals. So, we have to be open to each other views during this discussion. My reason is based primarily on the person's behavior or character traits.

The individuals I have commented on in today's show simply have not impressed me in which they are not required to do so. Yet, I have the right to refuse to support anything you do. Honestly, I doubt if they care and will lose any money over my two cents worth of thoughts.

Listen to the show and tell me what you think. Some of the people I mention are Steve Harvey, Stacy Dash, Charlemagne- the Breakfast Club, Donald Trump, Hulk Hogan and others. Tell me what you think or who you would add to this list. Yes, I know R. Kelly is on everyone’s list.

  • Make You Lose Your Mind

Today on the Simply Straight Talk show, your host Reggie Maddox is discussing some of things people do that drive us crazy. Some of us have a high patience level while others have limited to no patience.

People have a way of making you laugh or wanting to create a new dictionary for vulgar words. Something absolutely minuscule can really get under your skin and turn a perfectly good day into something out of Apocalypse Now. It might not make much sense to you, but the other person may feel as if their behavior is normal.

Honestly, I am sure you have witnessed people doing some of the craziest things in stores, restaurants, parks, theaters, parking lots or other public places. Somethings result from a person lacking common sense while other acts border on stupidity. For example, individuals who go to the movies and wait until the person in the ticket office ask them which movie they are viewing. Now for some this may not seem like a big deal but with today’s technology, movie showtimes can viewed anywhere. Also, if you have been standing in line for 3 to 5 minutes pick a movie please!

So what are some of things you have observed in your daily travels that drives you crazy. As you listen to this episode, share you thoughts on the list from Reggie of things that drives him crazy.

  • Dealing With Criticism

On this episode of the Simply Straight Talk Show, we are discussing the impact of criticism.

To be completely honest, no one likes being criticized, especially from people we are not fond of in life. If doesn't matter if we find a person’s criticism to be valid or invalid, it can be a serious blow to our self-esteem and motivation. We all desire to feel accepted and appreciated by our family and peers. The ability to except criticism does not come easy for everyone. Many lacks the understanding of how important criticism is to self-development.

Embracing criticism is to your advantage, especially in the environments that are competitive and emotionally charged. Often, we allow ourselves to become blind or comfortable with our faults.  Having outside perspective on a situation allows us to self-reflect and make adjustments in our behavior on how we go about things in our personal and professional lives.

One thing to remember is there is a difference between complaining and criticism. Occasionally, a person may insist that they are giving you criticism when in fact they are just complaining. Complaining is simply random thoughts based on emotions which are not centered around personal growth or development.

In this episode Reggie will share some of the key reasons you should except criticism along with some advice how to use it to your advantage.

  • Lowering And Raising Your Standards

On this episode of the Simply Straight Talk show, Reggie Maddox is discussing the practice of raising and lowering your standards.

What does raising and lowering your standards really mean, why do people do it and how can you do it successfully?

To me, raising and lowering your standards is about understanding what your expectations for having the quality of life you feel you deserve in your professional and personal life.

Raising standards is extremely important in any professional environment. Since competition is at an all time high, to stand out in the career markets, it is crucial that you focus on being the best you can possibly be and use every educational resource that you have from previous jobs or places of employment. It is essential because it ensures your survival and value in the corporate and business world.

Regarding your personal life, raising standards is extremely important. For example, what kind of relationship do you want? How healthy do you want to be? What should define your social circle? Raising standards means you continuously get better.

Prior to raising or lowering your standards, there are some things you consider. For instance, what are your standards right now?’ Are your standards realistic?  Often we set our standards so high in areas they should be lower and raise them in areas that should require a higher standard.

Raising standards is about deciding that you are going to create a better quality of life professionally and personally. It is one of the most fulfilling things you can ever do.

So today we are going to share some insight on mistakes people make in setting their standards. failing to properly set the correct margins in your life could leave you feeling discouraged and depressed. But don't take that chance, listen to the show and get a fresh start on life.
