One of the mistakes to avoid making at midlife that I talk about in this episode, may surprise you. There are many that I could choose. Making mistakes during the midlife years are plentiful. They come in all sizes, shapes and forms.
We generally hear of these mistakes happening mostly in relationships and finances.
Unfortunately, what gets overlooked is changing careers.
Some of the above mentioned mistakes come as a result of a career change decision. The mistake is not necessarily the career change as much as it has do to do with how the decision came about.
I remember when I made my decision to shift careers in my early fifties, I saw where I could have easily made the five mistakes outlined below.
I’m so thankful to God that better judgment prevailed. Unfortunately some were not as fortunate as I was and ended up shipwrecking their lives.
Here are the 5 career change mistakes you don’t want to make
The mistake of not:
1. Talking it over with your spouse ahead of time
2. Getting wise counsel ahead of time
3. Clearly knowing what you want to do once you transition
4. Having some form of savings account
5. Taking a step of faith
These five mistakes are prevalent especially the first four.
When this happens, so many give up because of not knowing what to do. It seems easier but is it really?
I don’t think so.
Hiring a coach is one of the best investment you could make at this point. I know it may seem counter-intuitive to do that because of the additional expense, but finding the right coach becomes an investment. You could see a return on that investment in a very short period of time.
Sure, you could use Google, YouTube and other search engines to find solution to your predicament, but I find that it will also add to your frustration trying to figure out which of all these advices to choose.
A life coach helps you to sift through the clutter and along with you find a solution that fits you and your strengths.
There’s more to be said, but as you listen to this episode, you’ll hear some of my recommendations as well as how I utilized all five suggestions.
I share on some of the above ideas in my new book – The Midlife Launch, which you can access below. I also outlined in my eBook practical steps you can take to identify, clarify and pursue your dream / passion.
