It’s been a long few weeks beloved listeners - we missed you! Thankfully, we’re back with another episode that’s NOT about Lord of the Rings. This week, it’s What We Seen: The Episode!

Helena, Matty, and Ezra each pick two things they’ve watched or read recently and compare and contrast the two - this ranges from thoughtful comparisons (Helena), to things that were entirely new and exciting (Ezra), to just straight up contrasting the best and worst media seen recently (Matty). It’s a broad spectrum of years, genres, and quality, with plenty of goofs along the way. They also read some of Matty and Helena’s Letterboxd reviews aloud, in case you missed some of their greatest hits recently.

The boys of summer may have gone, beloved listeners, but we still love Lord of the Rings (and you). This week, we’re wrapping up LotR Summer with a dive into the cultural impact of the movies and the books!

They start off with the Fantasy Blockbuster and why none of them ever really measured up to Lord of the Rings, discuss how the movies ended up becoming such a cornerstone of internet culture, and end on an old bit they haven’t done in quite some time - the Ao3 Check! They laugh a lot about those mis-translated LotR screencaps too, because they have aged beautifully.

They also talk about those SyFy original shows where they adapted classic novels into what was essentially romcoms? Do y’all remember those? Wild.

Welcome back to another round of our Lord of the Rings Summer (Summer of the Rings? 500 Days of Middle Earth?), beloved listeners! This week, your Sneople talk design and practical effects!

They start with set design and why Middle Earth feels so lived in, go into costuming and armor featuring Ezra’s cool design book, and round up with getting very emotional about various pieces of music. They also talk about Patrick Dempsey a surprising amount, considering he is not in any of the Lord of the Rings movies.

Next week is the last episode in LotR Summer, where the Sneople will be talking about the cultural impact of the books and the movies and providing any and all final thoughts!

Hello beloved listeners, and welcome back to part two of our four part summer series on the Lord of the Rings movies! On this episode, your own personal Snouncil of Elrond discusses the adaptation of the books to film!

They discuss the things they miss, the additions they enjoy, and talk about why somethings work in books but wouldn’t have worked on screen. They also delve into character arcs and why they’re so different for some characters, and ask that you leave Fs in the chat for the characters who were cut. Matty also talks about the blue wizards. You know those guys? They’re only really talked about in The Unfinished Tales, it’s fine.

They also have the full Snouncil back together this ep, and Helena, Ezra, and Matty take advantage of being at full strength by discussing how each of them came to LotR and how it’s shaped them. They also talk about why the movies have endured so strongly for all three of them, and get a little choked up at least once. They also keep telling behind the scenes stories like they’re those Did You Know? pop ups that some streaming services have. You knew what they were like coming into this.As previously said, this is the first in a 4 part series! Next episode will be discussing the adaptation of Lord of the Rings from page to screen!

We are back again beloved listeners, and we are back to discuss something we feel is pretty important - cop media, and how it impacts us.

Helena and Ezra explain exactly what they mean by cop media, and go through a long list of media that checks those boxes - yes, including Paw Patrol. They also discuss what impact copaganda has on our perceptions of the police, and why even media that critiques the police is not excused.

Ezra wraps up the episode with thoughts on why people, specifically fellow white people, are so drawn to it, and postulates what should be replacing cop media.

The Sneople tackle why trigger warnings can be so important, explain why John Wick is NOT what's wrong with action movies these days, and talk about the light saturation in Jaws. Matty and Helena also reveal their secret previous research into violent in media and the results of an experiment gone awry. 

They also talk about the new Dune movie stills despite it being off topic, because Oscar Isaac looks very handsome, the color grading looks too gray, and they're conflicted.
