The Sneople are flipping through the photo albums and digging around in the VHS collections because this week on Sneople at the Movies, they’re talking nostalgia!

The initially start with animated movies (and take a fun detour into Disney Direct to Video sequels), but go into musicals, tv shows, and all kinds of media in between. They then discuss feeling nostalgic for things you watched during weird times, and wonder what they’ll feel nostalgic for from the Pandemic Times. They’re also considering becoming a First Cow stan podcast, but that’s neither here nor there.

It’s been a bit of a break, beloved listeners, but that’s because we were mentally preparing ourselves this very special episode - our 50th! This week, your Sneople discuss the movies that made them Movie People.

They go through each of their three lists, explain why these movies made the cut, and ask each other about certain picks that stand out. On top of that, Helena reveals her venn diagram of movies that were on multiple lists, Matty talks about anime, and Ezra goes into detail about their color coded categories. They wrap up with a brief reflection on two years of Sneople, and celebrate being the oldest show on the network.

As promised at the end of the last episode, Sneople at the Movies features returning guest Madeline Shier this week to talk Arthurian adaptations!

They pick up where they left off last episode with Quest for Camelot now that everyone’s seen it, discuss BBC Merlin and everything THAT entails, and wrap up with discussing both King Arthur (2004) and what drew them all to Arthurian legends in the first place. They very eagerly agree that a specific book re-imagining rules very hard, and it may not be one you expect!

They also pick their fighters out of a list of Merlins and Arthurs - can you match Matty and Helena’s perfect predictions?

They wrap up with a deep dive into Quest for Camelot and give a sneak peek into what episode 49 looks like!

The holiday season is upon us, beloved listeners, and with it comes Helena’s birthday! (If you want to wish her a happy birthday, just yell it out your window. She’ll know). For her birthday pick, we watched The Lion in Winter!

Your intrepid Sneople explain why The Lion in Winter is both a Christmas movie and NOT a Christmas movie at all, talk about the adaptation of the play to film and why it works so well, and gush about Katherine Hepburn, both in this role and in general. They also talk a decent amount about the actual history of the royals depicted in the movie - surprise! They’re history nerds too!

The time has come, beloved listeners. We have tried to hide behind other topics, but no longer. It’s time…to talk about Supernatural.

This week, friend of the show and returning guest Leah comes back to delve into the long-running show and how it impacted our various lives, as well as it’s impact on internet fandom culture as a whole. This slowly turns into a discussion on queer baiting, queer subtext, all the weird little places in between, and what happens when the media you put your experiences into manifests in ways you don’t expect.

Happy late Ezra’s birthday, beloved listeners! This week on Sneople, we’re returning to regency romance with a look at Pride and Prejudice (2005)!

They start off with the differences between the mini series and the movie, go into what makes Pride and Prejudice such a lasting story, and unfortunately defend Mr. Darcy’s various rude actions. Lastly, they discuss the “secret sauce” of what makes compelling heterosexual couples in media, and which couples have rights.

They also talk about Supernatural a lot and they ARE sorry about it but like, cut them some slack, it’s been a weird couple of weeks.

Happy Halloween, beloved listeners! Wait, that’s not right. We did that already. We’re well into the doldrums of November now and this week, your Sneople get into Classic Films!

They discuss at great length what you bring to a movie experience, how a movie gets labelled as a classic, and how movies being labelled as classics can have a pretty strong impact on the first point. They then define what makes a movie a classic, why sometimes it’s unfair, and how things can shift in and out of classic status especially depending on the person.

They also talk about the one time Orson Welles talked to Helena at a party and told her Woody Allen sucks. You remember that party, right? Everyone was there for that and it was very cool and awesome and very much happened. /s

Happy (early) Halloween, beloved listeners! For this year’s spooky celebration, we’re taking a look at the autumnal classic, Over the Garden Wall!

The episode is split up into two halves - in the first half, your Sneople go spoiler-free and talk about OTGW in general: the visuals, the music, the laughs, and about every other delightful detail you can imagine. For the second half, they go into The Spoiler Zone and talk about the episodes in depth and all the smaller pieces that make the series as a whole so memorable.

They also spend a lot of time saying “It’s just - yeah.” and sighing fondly, because they just love OTGW so damn much. They literally watched the first episode again after recording this, if you need a more ringing endorsement beyond “It’s so good, please just watch it.

Happy Halloween Month, beloved listeners! We’re getting ramped up for the season with an episode on a favorite topic - werewolves!

The Sneople talk about The Only Good Werewolf movies, wonder why it’s so hard to animate a good werewolf, and have several good laughs about the plot of Van Helsing (2004). There is a lot of discussion about Aiden Turner as both a vampire and a werewolf as well, because he was very good being both of those.

They also find out that Hotel Transylvania has a werewolf dad in it and they’ve decided he is their new group best friend now.
