Today - a new $43,560 state grant will allow the Mansfield Police Department to add 24 additional body cameras for officers according to Chief Keith Porch. The award is part of the $4.8 million that’s been awarded statewide through the Edward Byrne Justice Assistance Grant. It’ll allow the MPD to buy 24 additional body cameras and more kiosk docking stations, upping its total to 40 cameras and seven charging stations.

Today - Payton Hall and Leia Walker have seen the stress of the last two years impact their teachers. That's why the two girls attended the Madison board of education meeting Wednesday night, wearing red and holding signs in support of their teachers. Hall is a junior at Madison Comprehensive High School. She says that her teachers are definitely a lot more stressed and everything is a lot more rushed together.

Also, Ashland County commissioners are keen on upgrading tornado sirens throughout the county. To that end, EMA Director Mark Rafeld on Thursday asked commissioners for an extra $83,000 for the department’s 2022 appropriations. Rafeld said: The money would be used to update the county’s current warning siren system repeater technology, which currently utilizes old technology.

Today -  Pastor Lawrence Rawls has seen the impact of inequality in the criminal justice system. He worked as the human resources director at Richland Correctional Institution for more than 20 years before leaving the local state prison earlier this year. Today - On Friday July 11, 1969, Theodore John Conrad pulled off one of the biggest bank robberies in Cleveland history. The case remained cold until just this past week when United States Marshals from Cleveland traveled to Boston, Massachusetts and positively identified Thomas Randele of Massachusetts as the fictitious name of Theodore Conrad.

Today - There are no unimportant jobs in the U.S. military, said retired CMSgt. Thomas Jones Jr. during yesterday’s annual Veterans Day ceremony at the Gazebo in Central Park. Jones reminded those in attendance that anyone who takes the military enlistment oath agreed to sacrifice themselves in the defense of the country. He said that no matter when you joined, you didn't know what was going to happen to you ... what the circumstances were going to be. Everyone saw something unique and different - everyone who served.

Also, Jane Roland didn’t know what she’d find when she set out to take photos of old grave markers at Ashland County Home Memorial Park for a genealogical website. What she found, however, was a cemetery in disrepair. The wooden sign welcoming passersby at the front of the property along County Road 1754 had nearly collapsed. The stone markers were sunken into the ground -- some of them weren’t even visible anymore.

Today - Third Street Family Health Services celebrated Veterans Day early this year with free dental services to area service members. Veterans received an exam, x-rays and a cleaning at no cost. There was also free blood pressure and glucose testing available.

Also, after more discussion on Monday night, the Mount Vernon City Council moved forward on a plan to expand its engineering department and fill other vacant positions. Council members adopted legislation creating the position of “assistant city engineer” However, by a 5-2 vote, they amended the ordinance to remove language that creates an engineering project manager position.
