  • Soul School-Lesson 59: Family Gathering and Conflicts
Is it hard to be with family over the holidays? Are you afraid a fight about politics or an old issue will surface and make the time awkward or painful? Is it just a matter of time before everyone zones out on their phone or plops in front of the television and stops interacting?

Soul School today is about what is really going on just under the surface during these gatherings, how we can see them more practically and realistically, and how we can get far more meaningful connections during our gatherings with family and friends any time of the year with built in breaks, a special kind of communication, and a specific outlook. BE SURE to tune in FRIDAY (Black Friday, Nov 25th) for the guest episode with Dr Leon Seltzer. We will be talking about another holiday tradition: Passive-Agression! (why it happens, how to spot it and what to do about it)

Please tell your family and friends about Spark My Muse. Thank you for listening and may you enjoy your time together with others in a special way this year.

  • Esp 88: Suggestible to Healing-Placebo Science, guest Erik Vance
Humans are suggestible and science writer Erik Vance has studied how that talent can offer us a healthier and better life. His findings are remarkable.

Show notes have extras including links to his book, min-by-min details and related episodes I've done with false memory expert Dr Steven Porter, and on Ellen Banger's work on placebo effect. Find that at SparkMyMuse.com

  • Soul School-Lesson 58: How to Be with Other Humans
Among younger people (Under 25?) and isolated people, the digital world and technology has provided a sense of friendship and connection, but in reality these touch points bear little resemblance to real life connections, conversations, intimacy, and challenges of face-to-face and life-to-life bonds that used to be commonplace.

This episode is a kind of primer for how to engage (to re-engage if you've gotten rusty) with other humans in the most vital –though messy and inconvenient–ways that result in powerfully transformative and meaningful ways of living.

The challenge is to put ease aside and accept other humans with all their frailties, even when they cease to amuse us. This is something technology trains us not to do and we must unlearn this.

Thank you for joining me today. I'd love to hear your input.

  • Eps 87: An Inefficient Conversation with guest Matt Inman
When people examine their lives, maybe on their deathbed or after a sobering life experience, or a time of introspection, they tend gain clarity into their deepest desires and to the same basic connections and meaningful experiences that are in facet inefficient in nature. Maybe it's the long, slow walk with a friend that didn't burn calories or get you somewhere quickly–the time they were late for work because they spent extra time hugging their kid goodbye and fixing their mittens–the so-called wasted time they stayed up all night with a friend after a breakup.

My guest today, Matt Inman, has focused his recent work and more of his life on making better space for these inefficient moments and invites us to do the same. Hear his story and our inefficient conversation–which will be the first of more to come.

Thanks for being a part of what I'm doing and tuning in. Your support in terms of sharing the show, reviewing it on iTunes, or sending a gift my way it SO appreciated and brings me cheer.

Please reach out. It's inefficient, but I love to connect.
