We chat with Shane just hours before the Al Shira'aa Hickstead Derby to explore what it means to compete on home ground, the bumpy path to coupling up with Chloe Bunn (daughter of Hickstead founder Douglas Bunn), and his progression from Pony European silver medallist to member of the Senior Irish National Team.

Over the years, Shane has built an impressive international career, with Grand Prix victories at Lummen, Monaco and Dublin in 2019. That journey reached a major milestone in 2022, when he finally won the Hickstead Derby on Can Ya Makan, a triumph that came on his 17th attempt.

In this episode, Shane discusses the pride and pressure of jumping at home, the strategy behind Derby Day, and what it takes to sustain a top-level career in showjumping, all while raising a family at Hickstead.
