Host Gavin Spittle opens with Kirill Kaprizov’s massive contract the Wild gave him. He looks at that contract and compares it to what Jim Nill is paying Mikko Rantanen, 5 million dollars less per year and he got signed to an 8-year contract. Wyatt Johnston is making 8.5 million dollars per year on a 5-year contract. Major stick tap to Jim Nill. Then he talks about the game and how the Stars did a good job getting the puck out of the zone and players carrying the puck more which opens up the ice and limits turnovers in the neutral zone. Most of the regulars played in this game and Gavin says he is already seeing a difference in the Stars power play this preseason, with them having more movement. He thinks Justin Hryckowian has done enough in the preseason to make this team. Gavin wraps by answering a question about Chicago Blackhawks player Lukas Reichel and if the Stars would be interested in him.

The Stars fall to the Avalanche 4-1 and it’s the first loss of the preseason for Dallas. Host Gavin Spittle talks about how the Stars roster that they sent to Colorado was pretty telling for what kind of game it would be. They left the offensive star players off this trip. Dallas held Colorado 0/7 on the power play but the fact Dallas took 7 penalties really made it hard for them to have any offensive momentum. Gavin continues to highlight the play of Trey Taylor and how he continues to impress. Then he goes through the NHL headlines of the weekend.

Gavin asks Sean about the chemistry between Wyatt Johnston and Bourque and if that could be a possible regular season line combo? The guys also talk about the play of Lian Bichsel and Nathan Bastian. Will this be the year that Alex Petrovic makes the Stars roster? Sean discusses the Jamie Benn injury and how this is different from other injuries. Host Gavin Spittle explains the way teams approach preseason games and the way they decide who will play or who won’t play in games. He was impressed with the Stars and the way they played without their full roster full of their top players. Gavin talks about what makes Wyatt Johnston so good in the middle of the offensive zone and how we could see more Wyatt Johnston and Mavrik Borque on the same shift. With the Jamie Benn injury, Justin Hryckowian could be the guy that plays in his place and it was a good preseason game for him against the Wild.
