This week on the Pennsylvania Woodsman Mitch and Robby have a round table discussion with some experienced PA black bear hunters. Returning to the podcast is Mark Lesher, along with Chris (Chopper) Schroeder and Robby's dad, Rob Henne. We cover a multitude of topics including scouting, finding food, reading terrain, adapting to hunting pressure, planning drives with the wind in mind, communicating effectively in group hunts, and much more. Pennsylvania is a target rich environment for black bears, as the habitat manipulation and quality management plan have sustained a growing population. Even with this in mind, roughly 3,000 to 4,000 bears are harvested annually out of 200,000+ bear licenses sold!
Unique to this conversation is the fact that while our guests have hunted slightly different terrain and food sources for bears, many of their tactics mirror. For instance, it is common for many bear drives to involve yelling and noise. While this helps to keep those walking in line, the theory also is that it will encourage movement towards a post of standers. However, while that may be effective at times, the group discusses how and why they refrain from making noise during drives, and how added stealth often leads them to higher success. Whether you are a novice bear hunter or well experienced, this is a conversation that anyone can learn something from!

November has been pretty uneventful here in SGH land. Matt's not been hunting much, Parker's been dealing with other junk like the flu and kidney stones. It's just not been a fun start to the magic month. However, things couldn't be better for Parker's dad. Randall McDonald has been on the show before, talking about the challenges of hunting his small East Texas property. For years he's tried to find the right way to hunt it, nearly to no avail. This year has been a different story with a more than happy ending. The result: one heck of a day of hunting and getting his hands on a true East Texas GIANT buck. Enjoy!

On this episode of The Nomadic Outdoorsman Dan talks with Luther Roweton, a fellow Missourian that Dan met while competing for a public land dove hunting spot.
Luther was raised in Southwest Missouri. He found that the outdoor lifestyle provided a means to escape and center himself at a young age. Luther grew up in agriculture, helping with a large cattle operation on a midsize farm which provided ample opportunity to experience hunting and learn the craft of woodsman-ship. Without and family members that really hunted, Luther started failing early and often but fell in love with the process of learning. His senior year of high school Luther opted out of a starting spot on the basketball team because he couldn’t miss another opportunity at chasing whitetail during the rut. Now, married with children Luther’s focus has shifted. Luther is married to a supportive wife and fellow hunter Angelique whom he helped get a first archery deer kill this season. Luther spends most of the archery season chasing mature bucks on his own and emphasizes family time during Missouri’s firearm season. Dan and Luther talk about their similar early season hunts where they both took great deer with their bows while hunting from a saddle setup.

This week the guys sit down and talk about white-tailed deer basics with Clint Mccoy of ODW. Clint is a deer biologist for the state, and covers what exactly is happening with the Ohio heard in the month of November. Know thy Enemy right? Okay, the deer aren’t the enemy, but they are the target.
Paul and Andrew are doing what they do best in the woods. Nothing. Well, they are getting better, but still putting the pieces of the puzzle together. Both had encounters with shooter bucks this week, but spoiler alert, no racks on the wall. It’s all part of the process. Hunting deer isn’t easy, and can be quite the roller coaster of emotions along the way.
The woods are on fire right now, so hopefully you can find to get out and get the job done. Please tag us in social media posts and we will do our best to get everybody recognized!
Have a great week and good luck to those getting out into the great Outdoors of Ohio!

Hey everyone, welcome to episode 146 of the Antler Up Podcast!
On this week's episode Dimitri and I were joined by PA native Curt DeLattre. Curt runs Ridge Raised Outdoors where he puts out some really great content. Curt is a die hard whitetail hunter and puts in a ton of time scouting to put himself in the best opportunity to kill a public land buck. Over the years Curt has really enjoyed putting in the time to find and hunt the swamps of north western PA. For this specific episode Curt shares his tactics and strategies to find the rut. He also discusses the importance of historical trailcam data and the role it plays in making a more calculated decision to hunt this time of year. We get into a whole lot of different rut hunting topics and strategies.
Curt also dives into how he hunts funnels, how to handle the lockdown period, concentrating on thick areas and why he believes PA has grown to become a big buck state! Enjoy this fun episode with some great whitetail topics! Best of luck out there and Antler Up!

This week on the Missouri Woods & Water podcast we get to talk with Cameron Tinker with Midwest Gun Works and have some fun with a top 5 whitetail hunting calibers list as the Missouri rifle opener is just around the corner. Cameron is a gunsmith by trade and is very knowledgeable in the firearms arena so we thought he would be a great person to put together a list of his top 5 deer rifle calibers of all time. In this show, we talk about our local youth season event and its success in the intro, then we count down Cameron's top 5 and each of us also took a shot at it. There is also honorable mentions and the worst deer hunting caliber. Remember this list is just an opinion and more for fun than anything, but does give you things to think about.
