Do you have to clean yourself up before coming to Jesus?
Spring Lake Church’s pastors continue the Greater Than series with Hebrews 2:5–18 and this week’s message, Jesus Paves the Way.
They compare three very different sermon openings, explore why Hebrews returns to Psalm 8, and talk about what it means for Jesus to be our pioneer, champion, and victorious one. The conversation follows the passage from humanity’s brokenness to the way Jesus makes for us through his suffering and victory over death.
In this week’s Deep Dive, they connect Hebrews 2:12 with Psalm 22 and discuss Jesus calling us his brothers and sisters. A wedding-rehearsal illustration helps explain how the Old Testament points toward its fulfillment in him.
The episode closes with a practical conversation about temptation, failure, and depending on Jesus for present help—not waiting until we feel ready to come to him.
A question to carry into your week: Where do you need to run to Jesus for help today?

What would change if we truly believed Jesus is greater than anything we face?
Pastors Arlen, Ryan, and Jack continue Spring Lake Church’s Greater Than series with Hebrews 1:5–2:4. In Week 2 of The Follow Up, they explore why Hebrews places Jesus above the angels—and how that truth shapes our trust in him.
The conversation moves from what it means to call Jesus the Son of God to the difference between Jesus’ authority as King and the angels’ role as servants. The pastors also discuss the pressures facing the original readers of Hebrews and the warning to pay attention so we do not drift away.
In this week’s Deep Dive, they open Psalm 45 to show how reading an Old Testament quotation in context helps us understand Hebrews. They also share practical ways to use cross-references and study tools, then return to a personal question: Do I believe what this passage says about Jesus?

If Jesus holds everything together, what are you still trying to handle on your own?
The Follow Up is back. Bill Van Kirk, Jack Guerra, and Adam Jackson open a new season with Hebrews 1:1–4 and Spring Lake Church’s Greater Than series. They explore what the opening verses say about Jesus—and why those truths matter when life feels uncertain.
The conversation moves from the historical setting of Hebrews to the difference between knowing the Jesus revealed in Scripture and imagining a Jesus who simply fits our preferences. The pastors also discuss Hebrews as a word of exhortation, why the book’s opening reads like a powerful opening statement, and how the series can deepen our trust in Christ.
In this season’s first Deep Dive, Bill traces how God makes himself known through creation, the patriarchs, Moses, and the prophets, culminating in Jesus. The conversation then turns practical: seeing creation as an invitation to worship, giving Jesus his proper place in our lives, and bringing him the struggles we tend to keep to ourselves.
A question to carry into your week: What is one thing you need to trust Jesus with—and what would it look like to bring it to him consistently?
