The watch world is a funny place where even before you meet someone, it’s often you follow one another online knowing well you’d be friends even had you met at a bar down the street. I guess in a sense, Instagram serves as a virtual bar for watch geeks like myself. Adam Craniotes and I met through the Social Media platform where he shares his self-deprecating humor, his admiration and allegiance to David Hasselhoff, and of course his pseudo-public humiliation of his children. I happen to adore his relationship with his kids, but we’re here to chat all things watches, his writing career, his collecting journey, and of course his Acura MDX with the Sport Package. Of course none of this would’ve been possible had he not routinely met a friend at a little upstairs bar in the Koreatown neighborhood of Manhattan. That bar was called Red Bar, and so the watch group was named. Please enjoy my conversation with its founder, Mr. Adam Craniotes.
When you think of a magazine, you probably envision a fairly flimsy object comprised of ads making up 70% of its pages, and destined for the garbage having read it pool-side on your most recent vacation. Pete Stout’s magazine isn’t one of these. 000, the Porsche-centric publication Pete co-founded is far more of a book, and one more likely to perpetually live on your coffee table for months at a time, that is, until the next issue arrives. Between the quality of materials used, incredible writing, and unparalleled photography, this car magazine is truly second to none among its competition. Though biased based on my penchant for Porsche, I can assure you, if you’re also a fan and not already reading 000, you’re missing out. This conversation was an absolute thrill as Pete and I discuss everything from his first job to the 000 limited edition cars Porsche is now making based on his preferences! There are several incredibly touching stories he shares, which honestly had me wondering if I should’ve broken this up into two episodes. I’m proud to say it’s all here, so I hope you enjoy it. This episode is certainly among my favorites.
Kat Shoulders has been someone who I’ve been meaning to host for quite some time. I’m so happy we finally recorded, and as someone I have loved seeing at events, it was so nice to have a discussion away from crowds. We chat about her go-to camera gear in various situations, how you can get the Leica look for less, and we reflect on her podcast, Tenn & Two, which of course gets us into her watch journey. We even chat about interior design and what car she may just get for her next camping adventure. Please enjoy my conversation with Kat!

If you’ve worked in retail and subscribed to enough magazines as I have for as long as I have there are several names in the apparel industry that are evergreen and one of them is Justin Berkowitz. As a long-time contributor to several magazines - Details having been one of the main fixtures on my bookshelf for years - Justin has been a fashion mainstay behind the scenes of some of America’s major retail moments. His knowledge is wide-ranging, from watches to outerwear, so I was thrilled to learn he’d be open to being a guest on this podcast. If you’re into clothes and the BTS associated, then this one’s for you.

This is going to be a very short introduction as my guest today most definitely doesn’t need one. Kelly Yoch and I met during her time at the Patek Philippe boutique inside Tiffany in NYC, and we’ve been acquaintances and now I feel confident in calling her a friend. Kelly is a force within the watch industry comprised of a ton of product knowledge and an enthusiasm that can’t be matched. I honestly had a blast during this conversation, and that’s mainly to do with the fact this recording took the better part of 4 years to have. I can’t wait for you to listen, so here ‘goes!

Cameron Steiner is a Collector with a capital C. He kindly hosted me on his podcast, Collector’s Gene Radio, several weeks back, so this conversation was an effortless progression of our budding friendship. In a now-rare in-person recording, Cam and I discuss how he began collecting, why he collects, and some of the answers to some his own questions. Cameron has exceptional taste honed by his grandparents which he has extended to his own personal watch collection. Having spent a few minutes in his home, I can tell he and his wife’s knack for entertaining makes it especially fun to hunt for new ephemera. Please enjoy my conversation with Cameron Steiner.

It’s fair to say the Porsche community is a robust and passionate one. Given my proclivity for the brand, I almost feel lucky there are so many great events which showcase the cars and today’s guest, Adam Kern, is in the mix. Checkeditout is a Chicago-based event showcasing Porsches for enthusiasts once a year, and I’m thrilled to say STANDARD H will have a booth at this year’s event happening August 24th. As for the backstory, and a bit more about Adam, here’s our conversation!

You may be familiar with today’s guest, Bryan Braddy for a few different reasons: perhaps you heard the extended length Pit Stop last month where Bryan interviewed me, but you probably know him from his art which is under the label Bad Art Nice Watch. If you happened to be at the Grand Opening of the new IWC Boutique on Madison Avenue, perhaps you met Bryan there as he painted live. Regardless, you will quickly learn that Bryan is one the nicest guys in and around the watch world. He and I chat about his watch collection, his art, which sort of fell into his lap, his days snowboarding in college, and his love of the game of golf. This one was a long time coming and I’m happy to share it with you, so please enjoy my conversation with Bryan Braddy.

In the watch world, you have huge brands, big brands, independent brands, small brands, and even micro brands. But today’s episode with Wes Kwok of Nodus Watches highlights some big moves. From starting with nothing, to reinvesting in his company with his partner, Cullen, only to begin producing parts for others, the journey has been no small task. Further, Wes and Nodus have led the charge for a new kind of watch show with Intersect, where the focus is to keep the crowds to a minimum while having a large, supportive community impact. This conversation even begins with Wes’s recent big trip which you’ll hear about.
