Still Buffering

What better time to discuss the news than now? This week, the sisters tackle the huge differences between how teens got their news in the 90's and how they get it now. From real deal newspapers and magazines to Twitter hashtags and online magazines, the trio has covered it all while keeping in mind the truth is...out there.

In celebration of our favorite Mother Collective's birthday, the sisters have decided to tackle a topic both themselves and their mom are very interested in, telling the future (ooooh.) From zodiac signs to cootie catchers, the sisters cover it all, including a very lengthy discussion about Barbie MASH and owning a pet chameleon. So Happy Birthday to Mother Collective, and happy fortune telling and spell casting to all of you!

Happy Valentine's Day! To celebrate this (kinda sucky) day, the sisters continue their conversation on dating that they started many months ago. Last time, they covered how teens start dating and "talking to" someone, and now they're here to tell you how to go on the most successful teen dates throughout the years, from ample parking space dates to "Netflix and chilling." We hope you have a decent Valentine's Day and don't eat any of those chalky conversation hearts (even though Teylor loves them.)

Since the older sisters and many more teens of yesterday have been dying to know, this week, Rileigh finally explains YouTube and all of its secrets. From why teen girls want to know what other teen girls just bought at the store to how to make that sweet sweet YouTube money, Rileigh covers it all while the oldest Smirl girls reminisce on the first viral internet videos. Oh and there's a cat in this episode too.

Even though the beginning of this week's episode sounds like we've started a new Riverdale fan/hatecast, I promise we haven't, we just get really passionate about Archie and teen dramas. Since we needed to discuss the legitimacy of this new show, we thought it would be fitting to discuss the idea of fan-ing out over celebrities, and find out that all three of us have done some somewhat creepy-ish things over the years...

In this week's very timely episode, the sisters discuss a somewhat more sensitive topic (and one that makes Rileigh very uncomfortable at times), birth control. Since birth control is a phrase most all teenagers have had to hear or even experience at some point in their lives, the sisters thought this discussion would shed some light on the stigma and social acceptability of birth control throughout the years. Also, there's a lot of butt talk this episode so...there's that.

Hey everybody. We just wanted to take a second to apologize for the less than great audio quality of this week's episode. We're sorry if it made it hard to listen, and we'll be back with a much clearer episode next week. Thank you for understanding.

As the cold, dreary winter season continues to make life a little bit worse for everybody, the sisters reflect on one of the only enjoyable factors of winter during school, snow days. From the trio's combined hatred of winter sports, to the pure joy they all felt when waking up to find school had been cancelled, to learning some surprising slang terms for snow, the sisters have covered all the bases this week and hope you can relate to at least one of those feelings. (Also, it's been one year since Still Buffering began! Thank you all for your continued support and love.)

We aren't really sure what happened this week, we planned on talking about jobs and somehow the majority of this episode is about troll butts, Batman pizza, and Sydnee's new boat life. So...we tried to stay on topic and we hope you gain at least a bit of insight about teen jobs (but that might be hard to do.)

Happy New Year from the Smirl sisters to you! It's finally 2017, and we're all happy that 2016 is over. But, is New Year's even really a holiday when you're a teen, and how do teens actually celebrate it when they can't party and none of them have the "sacrificial parent?" I guess they could have musical theatre nerd parties like Sydnee did (but they sound kinda lame.) Find out the answers to all of these and more on this week's episode, and join us in ringing in the New Year!
