- Nike (NKE) is cutting jobs and overhauling the business as results deteriorate, with a restructuring plan expected to save $2.5 billion over the next five years. The company announced weaker-than-expected sales for the latest quarter and a disappointing outlook for this fiscal year, with a high-single-digit revenue decline expected. Nike shares fell as much as 8.9% after the announcement.
- A software glitch affecting Boeing (BA) 737 Max aircraft was determined not to pose a safety risk by a Federal Aviation Administration panel, a positive outcome for the US plane maker seeking regulatory approval for the largest variant of the popular narrowbody family.
- Carnival (CCL) raised its full-year outlook as demand for future sailings hits the highest-level ever during the quarter. The company attributed its improved outlook to a third-quarter record $7.6 billion in booking deposits, which beat a prior-year record by $500 million. Carnival raised its full-year expectations for net yields to 2.3%, an increase of 55 basis points from guidance issued last quarter.

- Nvidia (NVDA) shares hit a record for the first time since May as investors pile back into the stock after a two-month selloff that wiped more than $1 trillion off its market value. Shares of the world’s most valuable public company gained 2.9% on Friday, extending a nearly 25% rally from a late July low when fears surrounding the outlook for artificial intelligence pressured the stock.
- Tesla (TSLA) reported better-than-expected sales for the third quarter, a sign of stability for the company’s core business at a challenging moment for the electric vehicle market. The automaker delivered 486,532 vehicles worldwide in the period, according to a statement Friday. That compared with 463,761 expected on average among analyst estimates compiled by Bloomberg.
- Seagate (STX) shares sink after Nikkei reported that Toshiba would double its production capacity for hard disk drive.

The US added fewer jobs than expected in September and wage growth slowed, signaling some caution among employers amid rising costs.
Nonfarm payrolls increased 29,000 last month after a downward revision to the prior two months, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics data out Friday. That missed all estimates in a Bloomberg survey of economists.
The unemployment rate rose to 4.2%, partly reflecting a growing workforce.
